Finding time?

sketch-1556668212899

What a week! I’m in the midst of campaigning in the local elections. I won’t go into details or mention the party I’m standing for. I don’t want to get into a political ramble here.

It’s just been mad. I’ve hardly been home. I haven’t had time to blog. My legs feel like they are about to drop off because I’ve done so much walking. My back is aching from jarring it coming down some steep steps. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’ve spoken to lots of people and met some really interesting characters. I want to help with their problems and try and make a difference. The only problem is politics has become a real antagonism to some people. With everything going on nationally it is having an effect locally.

So life is busy at the moment. But I hope to try and fit blogging back in again soon.

Wash

My cat likes sitting in the bathroom to have a wash. I don’t quite know why. It’s probably quieter than the rest of the house and he’s not pestered by his sister except when she runs in and pounces on him! Yesterday she was sitting on the bath and he walked in she batted his head as if to say get lost. Sometimes they sit at either end of the side of the bath like bookends. I walk in and they are sitting there calmly just chilling. I think it’s most attractive when the afternoon sun slants in and warms the room.

Butterfly

Look closely and you should be able to see a tiny brown speckled butterfly on the ivy. I don’t know what species it is but it’s good to see it fluttering around.

It means that spring is really here and that our garden is working. It might look like shrub land but it’s all organic, it’s meant to be a wildlife garden. We even had a hedgehog in autumn. Anyway must get on.

The steps

IMG_20180831_122811

The steps were old concrete and brick. Like the ones they had at school all those years ago. When she was a child they would play tinker, taylor, soldier on them. You had to jump up or down from one step to another depending on what your friends shouted. She couldn’t remember exactly how it worked but it was fun . That must have been 50 years ago.

She had walked past these steps every day for months. The tangle of vegetation was getting worse. Today though, she had decided to climb them. There was an old grey wooden door at the top of them. She would knock on and see if anyone answered??

It was quiet on the steps, the traffic noise from the road seemed to have died down. A haze like a mirage floated in the air. She stood for a moment taking this in. Realising how steep the steps were. How flimsy the handrail. She knocked……

A few more….

Digital, digita, digit, digit, digit, dig, dug

What fun I had drawing these. From faces to flowers, plates and jugs. Lace and mandelbrot, eyes, patterns and rocks. I like trying to draw anything.

The jug is a drawing of a Clarice Cliff designed pot by the way.

All drawn at the now defunct Sketchfu website.

Cat washing

My old cat liked a good wash. He sat in here and went for a spin, (not really). He was so cute but mad. Climbed bookcases to the top, chased the other cats. He was very bright… Not like another stray cat we took in. Sadly we think he died from drinking antifreeze. We think he got into someone’s garage. That was several years ago but I still miss him.

Sun seeker

It’s sunny by the sofa and our tom cat never fails to find the sun. As the light moves across the room he will follow it. Eyelids drooping as he naps. Head nodding. Whiskers splayed in the sunlight. Plants display phototropism, bending towards sunlight. Is this an example of ‘catatropism’ (or would that be humans moving towards cats?).

In the case of these seedlings I have to turn them round because they bend each day towards the light. True phototropism. But the cat has also moved again. _20190411_111757

He’s a true sun seeker.

Wow signal?

sketch-1554939716910

Peeeeep she heard it on the radio. A loud pulse  then it was gone. What was that? It had been a piercing squeal.

But it was gone. A disturbance in the aether, a cosmic scream perhaps??

She checked the Internet. It was all over Facebook. At precisely 4pm Greenwich mean time a signal had slashed into the Earth’s atmosphere. So strong it was picked up by transistor radios and radio telescopes alike. The Internet was calling it a Wow signal based on a signal heard by a radio telescope on August 15th 1977.

Could it be interference from Earth? But the signal had eminated from the milky way galaxy. Millions of light years away across the sky from us.

Speculation increased  Could it be aliens? Or the voice of God? Maybe there was a new astronomical phenomenon.

For now the sky remained annoyingly quiet and the world waited with mixed fear and hope to see if it would happen again or what would happen next.
