Annamometer / weather station

Spinning cups in the wind

Gale force blowing across the land

Pressure dropping

Rain falling horizontal

Waves whipped into crazy foam

Crashing over coastal roads

Trees bending over fences

Birds cowering in hedges

Cold is the storm

Ready to snow?

Gales are unfriendly

Viscious and fearful

Great, gusting blow…..

Shouting stop at the rain!

Yesterday I was sitting by my art stall in the craft fair. The doors were open to let people in. Suddenly there was shouting outside. I heard my hubbies voice and thought he was arguing with someone! I headed to the door while my fellow stall holders looked on in bemusement.

My hubby was outside with three or four people and he was berating the clouds and telling God to stop the rain! I don’t know why he thought it would have any effect. He was quite alright, no fight. But it’s just like him, eccentric.

The rain and wind continued. Water was even dripping through cracks between the walls and the ceiling, onto the floor of the room we were in, it was not good.

When we came home the pear tree had blown down! Cause and effect?

Pink dawn

A rosy dawn this morning foretold rough weather later. We have had cold strong winds and hail showers! I feel sorry for the baby tomato and other plants we have outside. They should be hardened off by now but cold weather keeps coming back. We have also not had much rain over the last month. When we do get it we have heavy showers. Cloud bursts and bolts of lightning. Pink dawns ar harbingers of rough weather.

Wild and wet

Looking out of the side window  yesterday, you can see why I didn’t want to go outside! It being the 4th of April, I was hoping things would dry and sunny. But no. On the TV there were photos of snow in Shropshire. The weather was swirling round a hook of cloud scooting across the British Midlands.

Last night when we went out to the theatre the wind and rain were awful. There were gusts of wind that blew my umbrella inside out. I could have thrown it away but despite the supports being bent out of shape the fabric kept the freezing wind off us. My partner bent down and walked behind me…. If we had been in costume we could have been a pantomime horse!

Today there was sunshine this morning but its turned very dark and cloudy. I’m guessing it’s going to tip it down again soon.

Eating fish fingers after a walk in the rain

We are just back from delivering leaflets house to house in the rain. Storm Freya is due to arrive in the next couple of hours. I was going to deliver them earlier in the week but I’m still not well.

What could be more comforting than fish finger sandwiches with a steaming cup of (decaff) coffee.

We didn’t quite finish the route and came home soaking wet. There is nothing much worse than rain getting through the seams of your coat, cold water trickling down your neck and the rain running off a waterproof coat and down onto your trouser legs. Add wet socks from crossing big puddles, wet hair and raindrops on your glasses and you get a picture of how I felt half an hour ago.

The fish finger sandwiches, with brown bread and butter and mayonnaise were very tasty. If I had taken more time I would have added sliced lemon and a few salad leaves but I just wanted something warm and tasty and quick.

Meanwhile the wind is gusting, the rain is hitting the windows. I can hear the wind blowing through a gap round the window and moaning slightly. It’s two hours before sunset but the world very dark and overcast. I might just have a nap.

March Winds

IMG_20190228_191259

Tomorrow is March

Month of winds

Whirling round

Sharp and clean..

March comes in

Like a lion

Fights with the world

Shreds trees.

Like a dragon

Breathing cold fire

Bringing rain

And late snow ….

Or

March comes in like a lamb

First day of meteorological spring…

Gentle breezes

Kiss the blossom

Arriving early

In warm breath.

Then the old saying goes

In like a lion, out like a lamb

Or

In like a lamb out like a lion…

Whatever way..

March Roars !

It’s cold in here.

I’m sitting here this evening feeling cold. I put on the electric fan heater after putting on a thick jumper. Also fluffy slippers. I didn’t understand why the temperature was falling. Yes it’s cold, wet and windy outside but the central heating was on. I checked to make sure the door was shut…. Yes, all OK.

Then my husband who was gently toasting his hands over the oil heater said….

Oh I left the window open upstairs!

Brr……

Grr……

Now I’m getting too hot.

Funny what shutting a window will do.

Cold

Blue and cold, chill my bones,

Snow falls sifted like icing sugar.

Whorls of wind taking heat away.

to where? Icy fingertips frosted nose,

Ankles and feet lumped with shivers,

Cooled heels , cold arms, breath softly turned to cold fog.

Heating is on but not making a dent in the chilly room.

Yesterday was glorious, brilliant,  sunny.

Now I need thermal clothes to encapsulate me.

It may not warm till spring, when suns return heralds warmth.

Till then, head down, under duvet, I try and stay warm.

Winter begins in Autumns arms.
