Home!

After another sleepless night I got up and tried calling my cat again. I whistled and shouted but nothing. I had been concerned because when I saw him on Thursday night his chin looked strange and slightly swollen. I had decided to take him to the vets but now it was two days later and him going missing made this impossible.

A woman had contacted me to say she was his previous owner. She had not abandoned him but he had gone astray and although they had searched for months after leaving they had not found him. It was only when I put a missing post on Facebook about him that she spotted him and realised it was her old cat. With her and her husband’s help we managed to  walk over rough ground round the backs of houses and flats. It was actually this lady who spotted the cat in a little hutch in a back garden. There was a bowl of water and some food nearby. When we called to him “our” cat came out but was very lethargic and just sat staring at us. It was clearly our (both of us) cat. At that point another neighbour came round the corner and climbed the fence to get the cat. It leapt over the fence and scurried off and into my garden through the hedge.

Off I went to try and catch him. The woman and her husband followed and together we got the cat into a cat carrier. I told them I would take him to the vets as he was looking really poorly. We all agreed that he should stay with me as I’d been looking after him for the last 6 years but I realised she was really upset to part with him again. I don’t think I would have been able to find him without her and her husbands help.

Eventually I made an emergency vets appointment. The vet saw he had an abscess in his jaw and gave my cat a shot of long lasting antibiotics. I also have painkiller liquid to give him. Now it’s just a case of keeping him in for a while. At the moment he’s fast asleep!…

Imagination

What gives you direction in life?

Imagining a direction to take

Decisions made when I wake,

Thoughts my mind makes….

It’s a hard question when you get older and most of your life is behind you. I’m not very religious, so mainly I want to stay safe and keep going. No one wants bad things to happen.

I guess what direction I take could include going round in circles, always turning right, heading north. But mainly it’s just survival. Not in a preppy, survivalist sort of way, but just managing with what we’ve got, helping others when we can. Not expecting too much. Just trying to support each other. It’s not always easy, and questions have to be asked about whether the direction we are heading in now is still the right one.

The world should be fair for everyone. I know that’s a hard thing to expect, and people can be selfish and jealous of what they have. But I hope people will consider others as well as themselves. I think John Lennons song ‘Imagine’ is a good thing to follow…..

Will life be quieter?

Times are changing. When I drew this more than ten years ago I never imagined there would be a female Vice President in the United States, but Camalla Harris has just been inaugurated. It is another step on the change in society that has happened in the twentieth and now the twenty first  century. The Suffragets would be amazed and, I hope, pleased.

As for the 46th President of the United States, I hope he presides over a safer country. A kind country. Perhaps a country that dumps fake news generated by spin doctors and naysayers’. A healthier country and a healthier world. As a bystander across the pond I can only wish you well…

Dove

Someday Peace and Love will be more important than War. Nature and the Environment will become recognised for how important they are. Maybe symbols of peace, like the dove, will get the message across. We need to take these concepts seriously. We need to stop being selfish and realise we shouldn’t be self centred. People in all walks of life, in this country, and abroad, are struggling. War wastes resources and ruins lives. We need to support each other not attack and deplore. As the song says. Let there be peace all over the world…

Indoor and outdoor meet

Cats heat bathing. But this isn’t our indoor cats, it’s one indoor and one outdoor one. The outdoor cat has been in half an hour. He usually stays that long, then I think he gets too hot and goes and yowls by the back door, ready to go back outside. In fact that’s exactly what he’s just done. Walked to the back door and mroowl, that’s it. So I let him back out. His introduction has to be on his terms. My boy indoor cat is sniffing where he was sitting. Luckily he’s on a flea treatment so everything should be fine and as mine are inoculated means they should be safe.

Funny……?

Apologies, I stole this from Facebook. It amused me so much I had to share… My friend rescued a baby pigeon from the canal a few months ago. It had apparently fallen in. She took it home and dried it and gave it somewhere warm and dark to recover. Then she had to find out what to feed it on, (pigeons feed their squabs something called pigeon milk before they go onto solids). It grew and she called it Keith.

If flew round the kitchen to start with, then was let outside, it stayed close by and in a rabbit hutch for a few days until it had grown up. Finally it flew away.

Take care and keep safe Keith. Coo…
