Bit of a makeover

Things are changing on planet Mallaband-Brown so you might notice a few tweaks here and there thanks to my friend Mike from @staffsdesign.

I wanted to update my social media and make it easier for people to follow me. Being an artist has made me a lot happier and nows the time to try and make it work.

I didn’t realise amalgamating all my Web pages and sites would be so complicated and I’m so pleased to have had someone to sort everything out.

This is also a test to see whether it posts to my new Facebook page.

You should be able to follow me on the Internet at @mallabandbrown !

Egyptian strawberries

I don’t want to bother you with politics. But (and there always is one), my country is about to go through Brexit, which is, British exit from the European Union.

We are lucky here, we can get food from around the world, we can afford to buy it, unlike some places that have been exploited and kept down. But for how long?

If we want strawberries from Egypt or other countries we don’t currently struggle to get them. There are pan European trade agreements which allow their movement across the continent. But without them things might find it more difficult. Perhaps they could sail through the Mediterranean around the bay of biscay and up the Channel… By which time they may not be as fresh and that’s without any storms. Or they could come by airfreight but there may be more checks at Borders..

I know its not happened yet but I wish we could see the results of this strange decision and how it will affect us.

Are your walls full?

Clutter or art. I have such a visual brain that I love to see things on my walls. But I know my way is not everyone’s way.

But I would argue that there is some wonderful, arresting, interesting and challenging art out there and as an artist I like to add to it.

So if you would like something painting or drawing get in touch. I would be so happy to create something for you.

Buying papers, the cost

sketch-1547390254372

I did a calculation today because I love newspapers and we get them virtually every day, but a friend asked how we could afford it…..

The result was scary! It turns out if we buy a paper every day of the week it costs hundreds of pounds!

Hiw on earth didn’t I realise this. My partner also buys a magazine every week… Help!

Luckily I’ve realised if I subscribe just for the weekday papers it would cost 2/3 the price (or we could stop buying it completely, which is possibly the more sensible option.

We want to keep informed and find out what’s going on in the world. But with fake news on the Internet and a biased press I prefer to read a paper I trust…. So we will consider the subscription route.

Busy

img_20190107_000426_479

At the moment I should be busy painting. I’ve got something to paint by February and although I have the canvas I haven’t started. I guess its because I’ve been too busy online. Posting things on here and at Instagram. Putting a few things on Facebook and then playing online soduku when I get bored.

I know I’m on line to much because my shoulders are hunched and sore from holding my mobile .. So if I suddenly go offline it will be because I’ve decided I need to give this a rest. Also apologies again for not getting to read everyone’s blogs… I’m just struggling to keep up…

Dreams

sketch-1546379065747.png

Lost in a dream, my thoughts engulf me.

Hidden deep below my surface mind,

Jagged edges, or soft pillowing breezes,

Cats turn into cacti, spiking my hands,

Squid tangle my hair in the deep ocean of gravity.

How do I find my way out, up, into night time waking or daylight glimmers.?

Shifting sands release my breath, choosing to push me up out of sleep.

Slumber expelling me for the day, until it slips back around me. Pulls me back down to the abyss. And I sleep and dream……..

Reds

Something about red cheers me up, going bright red, seeing a red sky, the glowing coals on a fire. The cherry red of a poker?

Red seems to signify heat and health, richness and cheerfulness. Go further along the spectrum and you get to infrared and far infrared. These colours outside of the visible spectrum can still be seen with infrared cameras, where you can then see the heat signature of objects like the heat radiating from windows and hot mugs.

Red is also the colour of life and blood. Of holding your hands up to bright light and seeing the red colour as it shines through your flesh. Red is love and hearts 💕

Morning

A blue bar of cerulean sky contrasts with sodium lighting as the sun creeps back up the sky. Of course it is the Earth turning on its axis that makes the sun appear to rise when it is actually us turning towards it.

The cloudy skies have prevented me seeing a fuzzy green comet which is in the sky somewhere above Orion, possibly near the constellation Gemini. I’ve tried looking out each night but the weather is too murky. I probably need to take the car out into the countryside to see it.

More cloud has blown across the sky so it’s actually got slightly darker. I heard a brief song from a bird about half an hour ago but the dawn chorus tends to be muted at this time of year. It improves in spring and early summer when the birds that inhabit the garden start to look for mates.

Listening to radio 4on the bbc and hearing news from around the world.

Life continues, partner is snoring. I might be soon. I think I will catch another 40 winks…

X

This time last year.

FB_IMG_1544917482108

I was painting a tea cup and saucer for the panto I was in. Now I’m doing landscape panels. I would like to paint the actual scenery in the future. I can see in my minds eye that it should be colourful and funny. Bright primary colours plus zinging oranges purples and greens.

I enjoy acting in the pantomime even with a just small part. This time last year I was acting with a lovely lady who sadly passed away. I’m sad she won’t be there this year. She had charisma and a funny friendly way of acting.

This time last year I had been trying to set up as a small business and this year I have continued.

Maybe next year I will do more. I hope so and that you all have a happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.
