Wet carolling

We went out and sang upon our local church green tonight. All of us in masks. We each had a space marked with a CD on the ground. We sang four songs, Good King Wensceslas, Ye Shepherds arise, While Shepherds watched their flocks by night (Cranbrook version) and the St Day Carol (now the Holly bears the Berry…).

There were about seventeen of us getting very wet, but it was great to sing in harmony with people. We didn’t have an audience. But it was great fun.

Zoom talk on Nepal

We just attended a Zoom talk on Nepal. Our friend went walking there in 2006 to raise funds for eye surgery for the residents of Nepal. The talk included beautiful photos of the mountains including the Anapurna range. They were close to the eighth highest mountain in the world. The scale of the mountains is incredible. The villages in the valleys are tiny in comparison.

Through wonderful photography of the landscape and the Nepalese people my friend gave us such an informative talk about the country. He also included the music of the people with sweet, calm songs. A very pleasant couple of hours with many friends attending.

My ‘music’ sketch. We have a stack of music playing equipment over in the corner, CD player, cassette player, speaker and loads of old videos etc. All a bit out of date now. Sadly we mainly listen to the radio so it’s all gathered dust recently.

Singing on Zoom

Just finished a zoom singing session with some friends from a choir. The choir leader Sings and we are all muted, so all you can here is her and her partner and yourself. If you unmute the timing of the music is all put. So that people’s voices come in at different times. It’s funny but not productive.

One thing we have been doing is sharing pictures of model boats and even a painting of a boat because we are being led by a group called the Boat Band, talented musicians. Look them up on YouTube?

Apologies if I should not have used the words. I will take this post down if I have to.

Aunty socials piano keys?

Auntysocial.wordpress.com is asking for a design for her old piano keys, 88 of them, because she’s dismantled her old upright piano. The keys are black and white (over 100 year old ivory). There are photos on her page of what other people have done. I’ve tried to draw something after failing abysmally on a drawing app that let’s you draw circles but not spirals. Anyway this is wonky but I thought some wall art, a square shaped white panel, and with a spiral or two of keys on it, plus some musical notes painted on it. A bit random…. I don’t know.

My bush radio, and behind it a CD player and cassette player.

The radio takes a large square battery. It tunes in to Long wave so I can get Radio Four (including test match special). Its a real Bush radio from the 1960’s? I found it at a car boot sale years ago covered in splashes of emulsion paint. I gently cleaned that off (with a knife!) and when we put the battery in it worked!

I used the cassette player to listen to my fortieth birthday present, a boxed set of the Radio 4 series of the Lord of the Rings. We listened to it one weekend. Thirteen episodes, six episodes one day and seven the next. The epic series starred Micheal Horden as Gandalf and Ian Holm as Frodo. It includes parts of he books that don’t appear in the films. It’s not as complex as the original books, but very good.

Finally my CD player. I’ve got cds but I don’t listen to them very often. The whole lot of equipment is getting very old. But they have worked well for me. It would be sad to get rid of any of them. That’s the trouble with built in obsolescence.

Woof!

I drew him in 2014. It’s in amongst some drawings of the Boatband that I did in 2014. But this cheered me up, I think he was howling along with the music as dogs sometimes do. We had a great time as usual. I’ve even found a picture of someone playing a double bass, not something that occurs very often.

Boat Band live!

I went out for a walk today up our steep hill and then called into the local pub to see our friends in the Boatband who were playing outside in the beer garden. We stayed to listen to the music, it was the first time we had been there since March. Everything was socially distanced with a one way system in the pub so you could use the facilities. The music was cajun. You can find them on YouTube. We had an excellent socially distanced afternoon although I drank far to much gin and tonic! (it’s taken me three goes to type something coherent here).
