From 2017. Quite eccentric ideas for cards and Stoke-on-Trent that I was playing with. We are known as the potteries because that’s what is mainly manufactured here. I had a bit of a play with scale. Sorry they are not good photos. My odd humour.
New paintings and regular art updates.

Try and draw a pattern that fits together, so regular shapes interlock. It’s easy with squares or diamonds, triangles or even hexagons, but when you get onto irregular shapes it’s more difficult. Interlocking shapes made up of the same shape over and over are called tessellations I think. Although I’m not sure because tessera are the little squares or oblongs they use in mosaics I think? I really need to look these things up before I write them down!
Anyway I’m working towards drawing dragons, and they are usually covered in scales, like snakes. That led me to realise that ideally I would like an interlocking pattern. I could look at a snake, or a fish, or a lizard, but I just made my own up. I added some crosshatching for shade and patterns for interest. I hope people aren’t getting bored with my experiments!

Experimenting again with dragon ideas. This one is made up of a drawing coloured in with different nail varnishes and then duplicated and mirrored after adding texture digitally. The blurred section had the words ‘dragon scales’ written on it but I decided to blur that out.
Each of these experiments will be added to a portfolio of images that will go towards my final major project for college.

How many mugs and cups have you got? I seem to have enough for a small orchestra!
I think there are a few more around the house and in the garden. I am not going to search them out. They are from various manufacturers. The majority from this city, Stoke-on-Trent.
Different styles and sizes. Some that I decorated (you can book workshops to paint your own mugs, some places are more expensive than others). The small cups are for tea or expresso coffee. But I prefer a madium sized mug, pint sized ones are too much for me.
The creativity of this city shows through the designs and shapes of the mugs and cups.

My idea was the to middle one. As you can see the Cockerel and the oval were strong influences on the final outcome.
This year the flag has already won the Vexillological Flag institute FA Cup of flags and on Tuesday we are in the final of the Flag institute World Series of flags @flaginstitute #WorldSeriesOfFlags (Hope I got the @and # right?) The competition /vote is over on Twitter from 11am. We are up against a lovely place called Tiree.

This is a tiny painting I did a few years ago, I’ve got twenty tiny canvases to paint over the next couple of weeks so I might do another one of these.
Other subjects will include Holly and Ivy, Christmas tree baubles, some snowy images and frost patterns.
Why? I have to do some art work for two upcoming craft fairs, and I wanted to do something seasonal but not too clichéd or twee. X
Sketching designs for winter paintings that can still be good to have on the walls all year round. I’ve seen a painting with a pottery in the snow, so I’m going to do something similar with Holly and Ivy. The second idea is a cat on a windowledge with a blue and white vase next to it.
Will try and get them painted this week.
