Get up, eat, go to bed? OK, Choir.

What are your daily habits?

Habits? What are they?

Life turned upside down when I started caring for my hubby. Everyday was different and it was hard to do things the same each day. Then he died and things got even less organised. Since then I’ve tried to regulate my life. Going to choir has helped. I’ve been in choirs for twenty years and that habit has helped my mental health. If the rest of the week is confused and mixed up I can hold onto the knowledge that I will be going to choir. Other than that I enjoy art and try and hold onto that habit. I would be lost without it.

Lobster thermidore

What’s the most delicious thing you’ve ever eaten?

I once went for a meal and decided to try Lobster thermidore. It was cooked with a mild cheese and wine sauce.

I don’t know how it was cooked, it was a special treat, but I’m glad I tried it.

I think its 15 to 20 years since I tried it but I still remember it. It was tasty and rich. But I wouldn’t be able to afford it now.

I guess, anything could be delicious if you have not had it before. If you don’t have money or resources you may never get to eat anything than the basic food, that you eat everyday if you are lucky. I’m not sure if I would eat it again now I think about their situation.

Angels

How important is spirituality in your life?

I think something is looking over me. Maybe an angel? I have thought about spiritual things and I think there might be something there, but I don’t know what? I would characterise myself as agnostic rather than an atheist. The universe is too big and complex to find an answer and I think we are arrogant to assume we know the truth of things. Better to follow the guidelines and try and keep to rules that help you lead a good life.

I guess I’m one of those people that are hedging their bets. Rather than completly dismissing religion I try and keep an open mind. I think we need to love each other and care for others as we would care for ourselves. It’s not hard to do. Anyway it’s what I think….

Self care?

How do you practice self-care?

According to Wikipedia :

Self-care has been defined as the process of establishing behaviors to ensure holistic well-being of oneself, to promote health, and actively manage illness when it occurs. Individuals engage in some form of self-care daily with food choices, exercise, sleep, and hygiene.

I have to admit that I seem to be persuing self neglect instead although not self  loathing thankfully. I do try to look after myself but things have been difficult and care takes energy and effort. I often think I should do things, but I don’t always have the wish to do them. When you have  problems to deal with its hard to find the enthusiasm to keep going and do more.

One good thing I have done recently is to go back to yoga class which I had missed for several weeks due to injuring my toes. That has helped a bit. I have found that it has slightly helped me to relax.

Queen Elizabeth the First

Who is your favorite historical figure?

I wish I could share a picture of Queen Elizabeth 1st, but as I’ve previously explained my Internet is down.

I learnt about the Eliabethans at school, and became obsessed with their clothing. I loved trying to draw and paint the ruffs they wore round their necks and the splits the rich Eliabethans had in their clothes to show the underlying cloth.

I was interested in the history of the Queen too, not just her clothes. Her court of figures such as Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Frances Drake. She was monarch when King Philip of Spain tried to Invade England with the Spanish Armada but was beaten by Drake if I remember correctly.

She never married and was one of the longest reigning monarchs of Britain. She was known as the Virgin Queen. Shakespeare may have written plays for her. But I don’t know the actual facts.

Crushed!

Write about your first crush.

My first crush was a boy in my Junior school. I think I was about 9?

For one year he was in my class. He was tall, I think he had dark blond hair. It was the time of the Lone Ranger on TV and he reminded me of him.

No notes were passed, no looks exchanged, but I would sit behind him in class and listen to him when he answered the questions the teacher asked us.

Time went by. I was wearing glasses by then and had to put up with being called “specky four eyes!” and nasty names because my surname wasn’t Smith or Jones. I wanted him to come to my rescue but he never did. Eventually it was the end of the year. He was put in a different class. I had to get on with life. But then I fell in love with Slade the Rock Band, or was it Starsky and Hutch? Anyway I moved on. And no I actually wasn’t crushed but it made a good title!

Wales and Scotland

What countries do you want to visit?

Not tropical,

I would like to visit Wales again one day. Particularly around Tenby. It’s a beautiful and interesting place. There is a lot of history and beautiful scenery, plus what’s better than an amazing dragon on your flag?

Scotland is my other choice, mountainous and mysterious, with a possible monster in Loch Ness! I have never been, I went to Carlisle once which is on the border. It’s always felt too far away.

I won’t fly, so unless I travel by boat or train I’m never going to go much further. I think my carbon footprint is quite small and I’d like to keep it that way! Plus I don’t really do heat, and when I hear of places already getting up to 40°C or more this year it worries me. I don’t think I could cope with it. I’ve always felt I can watch TV I’d I want to see a place. I can’t afford the reality. And there’s still plenty of England to explore too!

My eyes

What’s your favorite thing about yourself?

Not their colour

Not their shape

But the fact they work

That I can see,

So I can paint and draw.

My fear is losing my sight

Finding one day the light has gone

No more views

No more staring at stars

Seeing friends faces

Letting paint flow

Hand eye coordination

My favourite feature

Keep them safe X

Retirement?

How do you want to retire?

I need a crystal ball.

To see into my future

Life could be fun

Or a daily grind

Who can tell?

Will I get a pension?

Will I have enough?

Will the planet be OK?

What will happen to the environment?

Lots of questions.

I would like to keep as fit as I can.

I hope to feel enthusiastic again,

Maybe get involved in the community.

Semi retirement is OK

But I do feel a little lost

I do try and do things

When I’m feeling OK.

That’s the main thought

A wish to be OK

To keep going.

Not to lose my way.

An old mug

What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use daily?

I still use an old mug that I’ve had for over twenty years. There’s a small crack in the top of the handle that flexes slightly when I pick it up if it’s full. One day I think it will either get broken in the washing up bowl or when I pick it up. Hopefully the first option as I don’t want a lap full of decaff!

I do use it virtually everyday but I can’t find it now so I’ve used a stock photo that looks like it. It’s like goldilocks, just the right size for a drink, not too much, not too little. The handle fits my hand just right.

I don’t know the manufacturer, but it’s likely to be local as I live in an area called “the potteries”. You can tell people are from here. They lift up pottery and look underneath for the manufacturer’s mark (backstamp). It’s so well known that its called the “turn over club”!
