Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was current. Oh dear! I struggled to think of anything that fitted the prompt so I went for something silly and a play on words. Current and Currant, homophones

I was struck by how many toy adverts are on the TV now coming up for Christmas. There were a lot of crying baby dolls and I decided to draw this in response (for my own amusement). I guess I’m a closet cartoonist! I don’t mean to offend anyone, so apologies in advance x

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was Australia. I had this mad idea to draw a giant kangaroo balloon. It has to be tied down to stop it blowing away. Hence the speech bubble ‘I tied my kangaroo balloon down’ it’s a bit silly but it cheered me up!

Anyway after a couple of days of conjecture and speculation it turns out Boris Johnson has decided not to stand for Conservative leader and Prime Minister again. When I heard the new I actually whooped with joy!
His Conservative backers, including Jacob Rees-Mogg were saying he definitely had 100 MPs supporting him (the threshold was raised from 20, which it was for Liz Truss). So what has happened? Could it be he’s had a change if heart, or maybe he realised that there Ed too many things adding up against him? So it is now likely that Rishi Sunak will become Prime Minister although there is another candidate. We do live in interesting times….

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt is ‘Fence’. Not sleeping well so decided to do a cartoon for this to take my mind off things. It’s called ‘fencing’ and it’s two neighbours fighting about a fence! Black fine liner pen.

I wanted to get a photo of my cat in this pose but he moved. The way he was sleeping reminded me of Superman in flight. The photo of him is transposed because he wouldn’t turn round for me. Now he’s asleep again on the arms of our chairs, he lies on a cushion that straddles the two armchair arms. I would like to do a cartoon strip about a cat. I had done one online a few years ago called the adventures of Tig, but that site is now defunct. When I think about it I have done a lot of art over the years!

Same drawing repeated and coloured. Toooo Close (too close) in red as if a neon sign was lit against a bright green (viral) background. Duplicated to get a feeling of crowded closeness. No one wears a mask. All have faces with staring eyes, All on about the same level so their breathing is near to each other. Title ‘Anxiety 4’,i did three previous sketches.

I can’t remember the story behind this or whether there was a prompt. I drew it last year. I had to draw something with four panels for my college course. It starts with someone by a campfire. The fire goes out so they go to get more wood, But instead of it all being sticks, a snake, which had been asleep wakes up. I like the simple style I drew it in and the minimal images in it. But now I look back at it I worry that the snake would have been burned or might have woken up before being put on the embers. Even with a simple story you have to be aware of consequences!

I painted this little cartoon years ago. Don’t remember the date but probably 20 years? I think I’d splashed drips of watercolour onto the paper and the cat was a way of using the paper up and not wasting it. Photo taken late afternoon with a dim sidelight on. I could have waited till tomorrow but I wanted to share.
I have a friend that hates cats. I wish I could explain how I love them. Their character, their expressions, their true friendship when you get to know them. They seem aloof, but once you know them they are not…. And they don’t seem to hate rain. I’m often soaked when they come in from a rain shower, but I thought this looked funny. X

In about 15 minutes we had to draw a set of panels based on some prompts. The one I chose was someone at a campfire then something sinister happens…. I hope this is understandable. The final two panels are meant to increase tension. Finally she ends up facing a snake!
