Jack Frost?

When I’m not painting or sketching, I’m doodling.

Meet Jack Frost, or the Thorn Fairy depending on the time of year? I don’t know where the idea came from. But nights are getting a bit longer and colder and today seemed really cold in our house. It was so chilly I put a jumper on! Then this evening I looked up at our bedroom window. The top pane was wide open, no wonder it was cold! Hubby admitted it had been open since this morning. We agreed heating the outside atmosphere with our central heating system is not a good idea!

So now Jack Frost is a Thorn Fairy. A useful creature to keep people out of our garden, perhaps!

Another poppy flower

I was asked if I had any more poppy paintings for the shop unit today so I resurrected an old painting.

This was from 2019, it was a Poppy that lacked definition, it was a bit dark and flat. I was never very happy with the leaves so I over painted them too. Acrylic on canvas.

Red and green spins in front of my eyes. Trying to capture that motion. Almost three thirty am. I’m tired but happy. Signed and dated.

Almost done

Two fifteen am, almost done, need a rest and to let the paint dry a bit. It’s acrylic so it won’t take long. Some of this is wrong, but if you don’t see the original photo you won’t know! It will probably be finished by Three o’clock.

Forth painting in progress. Trying to capture the movement of a fly wheel and govenor as it spins. I’m working from a photo I took of the Princess Steam engine, which was running at Etruria Industrial Museum last weekend. Acrylic on canvas.

Three of four paintings I need to finish by tomorrow! Eek. Two paintings with poppies, plus a bottle kiln and sky. I’m also half way through the painting of a steam engine. I could have done this yesterday but I got involved in something else. Pressure? What pressure! ❤️

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was Motion. This is my motion drawing, I visited Etruria Industrial Museum at the weekend and saw the Princess steam engine running. This is based on a photo but not copied from it. I have tried to remember how it was set up, I’ve also tried to use lines to indicate blurred motion.

I’ve started the poppy and wheat painting. Just primary colours to start. Then I will build it up. I might use some gold paint for the wheat seed heads. I’ve got to add green but the paint is still wet. Not much to see here yet. Lots of work to do on it.

Collaboration

The Orme Art Group is setting up a friends of page on Facebook. We want to share our ideas with members of the public who might be interested in coming to an exhibition or even joining.

One of the things we did over covid was to collaborate on pictures based on the work of famous artists. For example this picture based on a Cezanne still life.

If you were setting up a new page what would you suggest including?

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was village. I’m really busy getting some artwork done so I only gave myself a short amount of time. So this is a quick sketch of a village on a hill took about twenty minutes..felt pen and ink pen drawing.
