Soaked!

My feet were soaked, my coat got soaked and hail and rain trickled down my neck! The bottom of my trousers acted like a wick and sucked up the water. I was still wearing sandals because I hurt my toes a few weeks ago and the sandals are squelching  so I’ve had to get my warm slippers on. It’s not very warm so I’ll get a hot shower.

April showers? Yesterday the next door town had a mini tornado that blew a caravan over and several trees were blown over in the east Midlands. Today we even had a thunderstorm. I only went out to meet a friend, we had a walked up the steep hill to her house and then I was stuck for a while because the hail and rain was so heavy. Water was streaming down the pavements and gutters which is why my feet got so wet.

We are lucky to have rain in this country but a lot of UK farmers have been affected by the wet winter months. Crops have been affected and are not growing like they should. The plants are basically being drowned and many flood warnings have been in force.

Better weather and a high pressure system is expected over the UK in the next few days. Meanwhile I’m going to try and get warm and dry!

Washing up

Drawing from April, tasks I hate. Yet again the sink is full, not just with crockery but with bits of food two. After two thousand times of asking my hubby to scrape leftovers into the bin, is it any wonder I get fed up with having to clean up the mess? Then there is the water problem. Splashing it everywhere, the seal round the sink is starting to break down. The sink was only put in about three years ago! It’s really annoying. Is this what men do to avoid chores???

Old sketch

17 April 2020 was a day I drew a days diary. The final day of drawing with Stoke-on-Trent urban sketchers. I went on to draw more afterwards. We didn’t know at that time that the virus was just going to keep going. We thought it would soon be over. We thought maybe we could conquer it! There was some optimism still out there. Now things don’t look so good. But you just have to keep going. I haven’t felt much like painting, but I haven’t stopped drawing yet!

Mark making

Drawing from April…. Why did I add glitter as the base of this? Then drawing over it in purple and black to include the cupboard and its content. I remember the feeling if the gritty glitter under the felt pens. Rough and making it hard to get straight lines. The teapot is definitely a bit wonky! It was drawn as a challenge with #uskstoke, day six. I like it because it wasn’t too safe. I need to think about style and how things look. This is a favourite although it’s very sketchy.

Keeping warm

_20190426_185157

My cats on their cat tree. Keeping warm. The weather is a lot colder now than it was last week. I gave up and put the central heating on. We were out in the rain earlier and I got soaked. We are having hefty April showers. The sky turns dark grey and then hail and rain pour down. The temperature is about 10 centigrade lower than it was a week ago… Typical British weather.
