Into the light

The pulse has gone, all is lost. Communication has ended. A dull drone at the end of the phone. A murmuring has slowly died away. No more heat. Soulless sadness. I had to write.

I see your face, but can’t recall it, only imagination holds you in place. Anniversary gone, I must face my own troubles. But I look in the mirror and see your face, then you walk away into the distance, into the light… My sister, goodbye.

Five years!

Five years? Where did they go? How have I changed and what am I doing differently.

The trouble is remembering everything. It’s half a decade after all. Along the way I’ve made friends here, and also lost a few. Like ghosts they just disappeared from WordPress. People I enjoyed reading most days just stopped, but without resolution or explanation in most cases. Even the ones I found elsewhere then disappeared again off the new platforms.

The trouble is trying to keep things fresh, trying to discuss different ideas. I used to write little short stories sometimes, spooky little tales that had a twist in the tail, but I don’t know if they were any good. I’m still writing short poems some humerous, some more serious. And I try and write about my artistic endeavours, whether that’s about painting or illustration. I hope they are not too boring. It’s been a bad few months and I know I haven’t been as upbeat as I could be. We will see what comes in the future but I hope I can keep going without getting too boring or inconsistent. Thank you for following me! ❤️

Still together…

My mom came and saw me at college one September and made me promise not to move in with my boyfriend till after Christmas. I moved in in the October! With a lot of ups and downs we are still together forty years later.. We hate and love each other! I think the wedding vows have it right, sickness and health, richer and poorer. It gives you a clue that the world is not perfect and that you have to work at relationships. Sometimes it doesn’t work, sometimes it does… I guess we were lucky…

This was last year I think…. Memories of madness…. And fun!

Two years!

Two years! I’m still here, still blogging, still trying to come up with new ideas, poems, short stories, but above all art, including drawings, photos and paintings.

I don’t know what subjects I will choose. I’m in a bit of a void at the moment. I did a lot before Christmas, but now things have calmed down, and some of the paintings people asked for in December have been postponed because of circumstance (not on my part). So if you decide you want a painting doing please get in touch. I might be available to do some commissions..

Helium balloon…

DSC_2340

I was given a Helium balloon by a friend for our anniversary and its gradually losing Helium as the days go by. Helium can escape because it has the second smallest atom in the periodic table, and can diffuse through the skin of the balloon. Helium is also inert so unlike Hydrogen that has the smallest atoms, it won’t burn. (Hydrogen on the other hand is very reactive and burns with Oxygen in the atmosphere to make water).

The balloon has gradually sunk in the air as its buoyancy has reduced. We gradually cut off the ribbon on it and as that reduced its weight it flew higher. Its also following air currents and drifted around the house. Rather like a drop of water floating in the international space station the balloon has drifted up and down the stairs. When it gets above a radiator it ascends, and when it drifts out of the warm air it descends again. At the moment it’s bobbing around the living room, like one of the giant bubbles in the 1960s series ‘the prisoner’….

A not very interesting anecdote…..

Enthralled

Apollo 11

50 years on,

Watching the landing,

Seeing the moon

In another light.

I was young when it happened

I was allowed to stay up.

Marvelling at Man’s bravery

And ability

To fly to the moon.

Hold up my thumb

Moon has gone.

If they did the same

earth was gone too.

Infinity of space

We are miniscule.

Apollo as insect jumping to a new stone.

Taking a tiny step into the void.

Perhaps we will go further,

But life remains precious,

Our bubble got bigger

But remains tiny

In the shape of space.

The web

Apparently its 30 years since Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the world wide Web. The Internet had pre existed the Web.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee is an English engineer and computer scientist. He is a professor of computer science at Oxford University and MIT.
More information can be found about him at Wikipedia
The idea of computers had been thought of from centuries ago. For instance there was a “difference engine” invented by Babbage. And then calculating machines such as the one that broke the enigma code in the second world war. Science fiction stories imagined huge single computers that could take over the world and it was up to a human (usually a man) to defeat it.
Now we have a massive Web of computers all over the world. I wonder if it will become self aware?

Timothy Trow

Sorry for the blurry photo. This is the memorial to a man called Timothy Trow.

I’d known about this for a few years but got a leaflet today and it explained he was a local hero 125 years ago.

Timothy Trow was from neighbouring area of Shelton. He was a conductor on a tram that ran along London Road in Stoke. When the tram reached the West End area of Stoke, at a spot near James Street, he saw a young girl who had fallen in the canal. She was later identified as Jane Ridgeway. He jumped into the Newcastle Canal and rescued her but he then got cramp and despite people trying to rescue him he drowned. All of this happened on 13 April 1894.

There is a memorial stone in recognition of his courage. In recent years our local Councillor has encouraged an annual commemoration. The local West End Methodist Church and local people have turned it into an annual event. One of my friends actually wrote a song to commemorate his bravery and a couple of years ago we walked along the course of the canal (which has since been filled in) and my friend sang the song next to the memorial stone.

One Whole year here!

It doesn’t feel like a year! I’ve posted over 600 blog pages and over 10,000 views….. How did that happen?

I do varied posts, from art to poetry, small short stories and hopefully funny stories. I didn’t think I could write so much and such varied things.

I think it’s worth being on here and as long as I continue to enjoy it, and don’t get too foxed by things like blocks and the new Gutenberg editor, I will carry on blogging.
