Fluid dynamics

When you try and paint things you sometimes make connections with other objects. This, I think, is a good example.

I was making a cup of coffee this evening and because we were having strawberries and cream I decided to swirl a bit of cream into my decaff coffee. I knew that the pattern would be similar… But this was almost identical. It underlies how patterns in nature can mimic each other. From liquids to planetary atmospheres, even to nebulae and galaxies, swirls and spirals persist.

Beauty and ugliness are all out there. Patterns like fractals can be seen in the landscape. Pattern is wonderful.

Life

IMG_20180808_154801

The older you are the faster life seems to go. Whether it is because of all the experiences you have had so you know what to expect, or your mind is so used to days flowing into weeks and months….. Its like the song, you turn around and youth has gone, summer turns to autumn and winter.

This year has been one of the best in my life in some ways. My health has been OK, I’m not at work so I don’t feel all the stress I used to, and because I lost weight I have been able to get about better. In contrast time seems to be affecting my partner more. He is still fit, but struggles to stand up and does not exercise as much. I’m sure it’s more to do with putting on weight, but it’s not helping that he is older than me.

I wish I could go back in time and explain what happened to me as I got older and tell myself what mistakes to avoid.

Life goes on, now I’m more thoughtful and perhaps too cautious. More bothered about going on long journeys and even stupid things like driving in the dark.

Life keeps going. I do as I’m told (mostly) by my doctor. I’m lucky at the moment to have health, home and some happiness. I just hope I’m not tempting fate by saying it!

Poddling

Argh that’s my leg! My cat is “poddling” that’s kneading it with his big, heavy, sharp clawed paws….I’m suffering from tiny puncture wounds in my thigh…stroke his back and he starts up again. Left, right, left, right…..look of concentration on his face, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, slowing down .. almost..no he’s started up again. Ow, should have worn thicker trousers….finally settled down, ready to sleep….thank goodness…

I once saw a poster “poddle free cheshire” that’s where I found this wonderful word.

Reddish

Red leaves sprawl on the ground. Reddish brown flights of fancy.

Reddish butterflies spin and whirl. Red and yellow stir the air.

Rubera and Ochre and verdant green. Colours of Autumn shape the world. Russet fingers fling outwards.

Brown’s burn to red, fire and gold. Blackened and rotting as cold and rain dampen their crisp outlines.

Give back to the soil, returning to earth. Wilderness and suburbs mashed together, following the floating leaves down stream to the sea.

Life renews, water falls, tree branches lie dormant until warmth returns to rebuild their leaves from the air we breathe.

Still painting

IMG_20181107_171157_810.jpg

Spent a productive 3 hours today on this…. Very complicated. The 1st canvas needs to be completed by Friday. I’m getting a bit tired so I think I will leave it till tomorrow…..

Trying to get the details is the problem. The image I’m working from is a bit pixelated. I’m bothered about getting the smoothness and roundness of Jupiter and also the blending between the different areas…. Oh well I’ll keep working

Green and brown woman

Progress takes time and thought,

Progress means learning,

Finding your way,

Looking back as well as forward,

Learn from your mistakes,

Find your technique,,

Give time a chance and

Catch up with yourself.

Mind is strange,

Mind knows and sees.

Mind gets ahead, sees a solution

Before you know

How to

Do it

Paint it.

Grow and progress

I was just going to write a short note about how this is progressing but it turned into a little poem. Better get back to work.

fireworks

PicsArt_1541594171297

Remember, remember, the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot. I think is the poem I learnt as a child.

November the 5th is remembered in Britain as the date Guy Fawkes was caught with fellow plotters, trying to blow up the houses of Parliament with barrels of gunpowder in the cellars of the building.

I cant remember much detail because I must have heard about it over 40 years ago. But on or about the 5th the country lights up with flashes of colour and loud bangs, whistles and whizzing fireworks.

The problem is when you have animals they can get very scared even living in a house with double glazing. We stay in to keep our cats company,  Put the TV volume up and try and keep them calm. I don’t get to see fireworks very often, but I love them so I tried drawing something, swirling, exploding, colourful.

Jupiter progress.

Note the first photo is the latest version.

For some reason they came out opposite to how I posted them. Here are two parts of my Jupiter tryptich based on a photo Jupiter in the rear view mirror by Nasa. Taken as the Juno probe flew by Jupiter.

The challenge is to finish one panel by Friday. The other two will be painted on our Open days, 16th and 17th of November 2018 when we join with the Stoking Curiosity event. Run in conjunction with Keele University and Staffordshire University.  There are a series of talks and lectures over the two days based on the integration of art and science.

Given I love astronomy I decided on this subject. Forgetting that I don’t have a working printer and that my computer is on the blink. I have to thank Mike and Nick at Spode for printing me off black and white photos and then colour images. I would not have got this far without them….. So I’m struggling with the complexity of Jupiter. I’m working on an image from above one of the poles where the oranges and reds of the main bulk of the planet turn to sombre blues browns and dark greys.

My shoulders and arms ache. Although I’m just trying to get one panel finished I have to work across two of them so they fit together and I can orientate where the blotches and patterns are. Please don’t expect perfection..I will try to see how it comes out. If you are around Stoke for Stoking Curiosity come along. I will be in studio 21 at Spode.

E-mail HELP

My email server has decided to kick me out so I can only contact people on messenger. I can’t work out what to do. I’m using two devices so I know by trying both that its definitley the server and not the device.

Who do I contact to sort it? My phone company , a computer shop or a phone shop? It’s asking me to verify my password, but it doesnt like what I put in, even though I am right! Argh…I hate when this sort of thing happens. It doesn’t happen often but when it does it can take hours or days to sort out! And is it just me! Is anyone else having problems?

So what should I do? Any ideas,

Please give me some ideas! (NOT RUDE) Thanks PicsArt_1541470184883
