Cats make my heart melt

20181105_133340

How old was I when we first had a cat? 11 or 12 I think, we had two cats, a tortoise shell and a grey tabby. I remember loving them. One was a kitten and we had a settee which had four legs so it would run underneath and pounce on my ankles. I had to sit cross legged on the seat to avoid getting scratched!

I went to college and my friend had two kittens which we took to the vets and we saw an old cat there which was due to be euthanized.  we asked to take it in and looked after it for a year until it died of old age. That cat was Jinx and I did a lovely painting of him.

The following year we took in an adult female cat. She was very clever and liked to ride on my shoulders.  She had kittens and we kept two of them. Once their mum died they were our cats for many years. The female lived to 21. As they got old we took in another two strays, one of these would sit on the white line in the middle of the road,  waiting for me to come home. He was knocked over in an accident with a car and was put to sleep. The other cat we think was killed by antifreeze or another poison. I was very sad when that happened, but we were later persuaded to taken in two more cats. They lived long lives . Finally last year we took in a brother and sister cat. They love chasing each other around the house, up and down stairs. Having fun trying to catch water from the bath tap and jumping up on top of the cupboards in the kitchen. They are a little shy when new people visit but they are loved and give love. I could write more but I don’t want to bore you.

Angry

IMG_20180903_021100_993

I don’t get angry very often but my head is thumping and my heart is pounding. Its making me feel ill I feel so livid. It’s really a trivial thing. I made a mistake and have admitted it. (it would be so much easier if I could explain).

I wrote about the situation here, but realised that I don’t want to get into blaming someone or getting angry at someone on line, its not sensible or helpful. So I have deleted what I said.

I hope my heart will slow down soon, but I still feel annoyed. Is there such a thing as righteous anger? I wanted to shout that they were being stupid, but I bit my lip. I have bottled it up inside. I need to calm down. Life does throw rocks at you sometimes.

Sky

Paint blue sky and take photos, take photos of different areas and duplicate and mix them up. Colours are a mixture of ultra marine, cerulean blue and zinc white.

It’s the top half of a painting of spode on a sunny day .There isn’t much progress yet so I decided to this rather than show you a progress picture.  I’ve just been too busy.

Anyway more to come I have a new painting to start of Jupiter to get done by Friday … Help

It’s over

After 5 days and 6 performances we finished singing with the play Beautiful thing tonight. We did two performances today and I’m shattered. We have had a great time though. The choir was accepted by the cast and crew of the play and the New Vic theatre staff. I think we had a wonderful welcome and great support throughout the run.

Now the play is off to Lancaster to run for a week up there. They will be joined by a new community choir. It would be good to go up and see the actual play (we only saw the bits when we were on stage). It had come up from Bristol after a run down there.

So what next? Back to normal. One of the choirs I’m in (Loud Mouth women) is celebrating its 20th anniversary with two musical workshops and a party. Then normal choir practice with Clay chorus the following night.

I’m staggered at how much singing we have done. But it’s been a blast.

Flying horse

DSC_0213

Why does the horse fly?

No wings, does it levitate?

Or is it a magic stallion ?

Or tied up with string

Flying cables, high wires?

Horsehead nebula in the sky?

Pegasus chased by Orion?

Old rocking horse or fairground ride,

Extreme dream, circus show,

Witches ride bareback

Mane streaming

Fly

.

Fenced out.

So many places are getting built on now. Here a tennis court or going to be covered with new houses. There an ancient field is being threatened with a building project. The reason? Local government is strapped for cash because of government cuts so they are trying to recoup some money by selling off city land. The problem?? The cities green lungs get clogged. Traffic increases. Yes we need new housing, but somewhere there should be better planning. Plus once a the land is sold how will they get more income and how will it affect the local environment  I guess I’m a Nimby (not in my back yard) but sometimes you have to say something.

I don’t know what I can do, many plans have already been approved but I will try and have a say in what happens .

Throw

I’m just starting to block in some brickwork on a painting. I will be painting in the mortar between the bricks to make it more realistic but I decided to play with the image using the layout app that comes with instagram. I quite like the result.

I posted it to Instagram and a friend really liked it.

My question is how would you turn it into a throw.  I don’t think printing it onto a surface would work. I think it would need to be woven.

Any ideas?  Ideally I want to meet someone who could  change my designs into fabric. I was once contacted by an American company,  but I checked their website and there was quite a bit of dissatisfaction with them delivering goods and also paying their artists…boo hiss! So I didn’t go with them.

Books

Finding, looking, delving,

Dictionary, fiction, fact…

Novels, poems, hardback.

Soft covers, sci fi, science.

Fantasy, non fiction, biography.

Thesaurus, quotations, magazines.

Libraries, scrabble, cross words,

Newspapers, letters, great piles of books!

Just no e-books!

Review

Well we are doing it. Singing to accompany the cast of Beautiful thing. Clay Chorus and some of Loud Mouth women led by Greg Stephens and Kate Barfield. Here I am with the cast members playing Jamie and Ste. I have to say we are having a good time now people are getting over their nerves. We are half way through a run of 6 performances so that’s why I’m not on social media as much. Here is a link to the review of the play .

Limelight

DSC_0206

The lights go down

You step forward,

Spotlight

Suddenly a figure in black enters

Stage left,

A glint of metal

An arm raised

Bang bang your dead?

End of act one…..

Hint of mist,

Haze of fog,

Gravestone centre stage,

Hush falls over the audience,

The earth in the grave tumbles,

Slips

Fingers push upwards,

A hand raised up,

Blackened nails stretch out

Through a solid stage?!
