She balances on the sink
Waiting for a love
Looking beautiful
What a face
How can I resist?
But she’s ready to pounce
Her brother is on the floor
Clash of the cats
Tripping me up!

Learning to illustrate means playing with different techniques. Both of these are black ink. One is just using a black calligraphy pen and the other a fine liner pen and a calligraphy pen. The top is called ‘what’s for tea?’ and the second is a tiny ‘cat teapot’.

She asked him again not to make a sandwich on the cupboard top. The cats jump up there and you don’t know what they are leaving there! Here, use a plate?
The man shouted that she was nagging, he didn’t need a plate. She tried again, there could be viruses or bacteria, you haven’t wiped it down?
But he still wouldn’t listen. So she decided to accidentally sprinkle coffee grains and sweetner on the cupboard. At least then if he went to make a sandwich he might use a plate? But no, he didn’t but at least he wiped the cupboard down!

Cats paws
Muddy feet
Climb up high
Then go to sleep!
Cheeky face
Whiskers, ears
Looking down
Gives me cheers.
Tidy cat
Fun and bounce
If not happy
Prone to flounce!

A couple of watercolours I’ve done over the last two days after watching a talk about using them. I wish I had stretched the paper as it curled because of the amount of water I used. The first is called ‘Why don’t cats keep still?’, basically it’s my boy cat washing, but he was constantly moving, the second is ‘lamp’. It’s the view of the back of our living room with a standard lamp and dream catcher with reflections. I used Arteza metallic watercolours and Windsor and Newton Watercolours to paint these sketches.

I’ve drawn a cat on a window ledge in front of a net curtain, its black and white and drawn with Autodesk Sketcher app and ArtRage app. But when I’ve tried to change the image size wordpress is saying media not found, so this image may not show up on the post… I’m publishing it these what happens…

If you do a line drawing of your cat and you want to fill it in with colour, you don’t have to use black. I’ve used green and red as complementary colours. It’s a very quick sketch and it’s meant to capture the cat without over working it. I think even a little experiment like this can send you off in a new direction.

A rescue cat. Another photo from forty years ago. This was our old cat. He was due to be put down because he wasn’t wanted so we took him in. He lived another year and died of old age and kidney problems. I did a painting of this photo on an old wooden cupboard door as I didn’t have the money to afford any canvases while I was on holiday from college. The painting was exhibited and sold to someone at Stoke Garden Festival I think? And I did love him, even though it was for a limited time.

Sat on the fridge
Looking cheeky
Eye on the seahorse
Ready to strike
Or will he disturb
My fridge magnet haven?
Paw at the ready
Beady eye squinting
Ready to pounce
So funny
So daft!
He thinks they arr for him. Usually if I have a bag and it rustles it’s cat treats. But tonight? Cashews, I’m hungry after my walk…
Sleepy cat decided it must be treats till he sniffed them! Didn’t stop him licking the salt off my fingers. Cheeky cat!
