Stray cat

Jot down the first thing that comes to your mind.

This cat comes in every day now. He pinches my cats food and then cheekily plays with their toy mouse. It’s filled with catnip and they love it.

I’m jotting this down because I will remember to post on line that he’s coming in. That’s so I can try and find his owner. Cats now should be microchipped, he possibly is. His markings are unusual so he might get recognised! X

Opticians poster

This poster is in our opticians waiting room. His grandfather is the Hanwell on the poster. It was done in the 1930’s I think by an illustrator called Wilfrid Sheard who was a private in the second world war and died in 1967. You can find his details on Google.

The picture is a bit disconcerting. The man sits on the road with missing lower legs, his boots strewn across the road. He’s clearly been hit by a bus. His glasses are broken. The sign says “Never Mind – HANWELL will replace them in an hour or two!”

New home

A friend now has this painting of Koi carp swimming at a pool in a garden centre I did a few years ago. Perhaps I will have to do more wobbly paintings now I have Parkinsons disease. I hate the thought I might not be able to paint. Someone asked me today what I was going to do if I don’t paint. I don’t know. It’s always been part of me. I know my manual dexterity is deminishing. I hope something can be done about it. At the moment I’m mentally staring at the ocean not sure if I can dip my toes in anymore?

Stare

Cats stare, they hardly blink, a slow closure of their eyes sometimes, or eyes tight shut, but you know they have half an eye checking out whats going on.

Ears pricked, listening for the rustle of a packet of food, the rip as you open it. They know the sound of a tin opening and releasing the smell of food.

Nose twitches, whiskers flex, mouth ready. Time for tea. And they move quickly when they tune into the signals you send them.

Strange witch sculpture

I made this at an art group today. It’s quite odd but we had dried leaves and twigs and bits of greenery and wool. The black curved piece at the back is a large dried leaf meant to be a cape. I thought the piece of wood looked like a face and body, the two forward sticks are meant to be arms, one is holding a stick. The blue wool round the base is meant to be water which witches are not supposed to be able to cross. The greenery is meant to be being whipped about by her forceful spells.

We were making Faery related objects for an art project and walk that is on tomorrow at Spode there were lots of other objects being made. Most of them held together by hot glue.

Pharmacy blues

Something is going wrong at the pharmacy I get my medication from. Last week there was a sign saying they were short staffed and that they were installing a new computer system. All the staff were different so I couldn’t really ask what was happening. I ordered my medication on Thursday and was told it would be ready for Tuesday. I went down today as I’d got soaked yesterday. The usual assistant was back, but she only had one set of tablets for me. She said come back in an hour for the rest. I gave them a bit longer and went back after a couple of hours. Unfortunately two lots of tablets were still missing. Could I go back tomorrow at 1?

I wouldn’t mind but about five other people were complaining of having to return for missing medication. I wished the assistant a quieter time and that things would get better!

Soaked!

My feet were soaked, my coat got soaked and hail and rain trickled down my neck! The bottom of my trousers acted like a wick and sucked up the water. I was still wearing sandals because I hurt my toes a few weeks ago and the sandals are squelching  so I’ve had to get my warm slippers on. It’s not very warm so I’ll get a hot shower.

April showers? Yesterday the next door town had a mini tornado that blew a caravan over and several trees were blown over in the east Midlands. Today we even had a thunderstorm. I only went out to meet a friend, we had a walked up the steep hill to her house and then I was stuck for a while because the hail and rain was so heavy. Water was streaming down the pavements and gutters which is why my feet got so wet.

We are lucky to have rain in this country but a lot of UK farmers have been affected by the wet winter months. Crops have been affected and are not growing like they should. The plants are basically being drowned and many flood warnings have been in force.

Better weather and a high pressure system is expected over the UK in the next few days. Meanwhile I’m going to try and get warm and dry!
