It might snow

Amber warning of snow and possible snow up to 10 centimetres. Also temperatures down to – 10°C. It makes me worry about people sleeping out on the streets. I see them more and more. I buy the big issue off sellers and try and give a few coins, but it’s not much. When you think about it people are struggling with increasing rents and mortgages, people are barely coping. I can only hope that this government try to do more than the last one? But I worry that the poor are often seen as deserving or undeserving when rich people are always fine. Oh I don’t know, I just want us all to be safe. X

Do I stay or do I go?

Weather is grey, cold and drizzly. I had three things to do today, but looking out the window?

So I’ve cancelled two things, I don’t want to slip or slide in this slowly freezing, icy rain. But I still need to go out, I have a deadline to collect something and I can’t miss that. But the gloom is gathering, I’m putting off what I need to do. Darn it.

Storm Darragh expected

We have a red storm warning for tomorrow covering most of South and Central Wales. Then amber for surrounding areas including where I live.

The warning is for strong winds up to 90 miles an hour with a danger to life, with damage to buildings and trees possible including flooding. I think there have been four named storms so far this season including this one. There has been a lot of rain, which is far more than we usually get. (this is the UK where we gets lots of rain).

See you on the other side….

Snowing

Mid November and the snow is falling. Not deep, but palpably real. Very early for this time of year, it usually doesn’t happen till January if at all. I’ve had the central heating on for three days now and it might keep going till the weekend. I’m waiting for the morning as it is forecast to get worse before it gets better. Sorry it’s not a more exiting view!

Leaf

Leaf leaves tree

How long will it be

Before naked branches

Are clothed again?

First frost, then rain

Maybe snow will come again.

Icicles hang on gutters

Defrost as cold rain sputters

Then one day a bud bursts open.

Spring comes slowly,

Time is sullen.

In these months leaves are rotten

And autumn colours are forgotten.

Farewell friend

The end….

Telling the weather by cat

Wet cat

Some cats avoid rain, take shelter

One of mine must have otter DNA

Who needs a barometer when you have him.

Wet fur = rain

Cold fur = frost

Cold white fur = snow

Warm fur = sunny

Dusty fur = Saharan sand!

Yes he’s a weather forecaster

Though he doesn’t know it,

He’s just come in

Damp.

Pink sky in the morning, my camera couldn’t show how pink it was, I really need to adjust my camera settings. Then it rained and rained and rained. Part of the time with a very cold wind. Autumn is on the way. As the saying goes, red sky in the morning, Shepherd take warning.

I really wish the dawn sky had been clear, there is a comet in the morning sky that could be visible to the naked eye in the next month or so. I’m afraid I don’t know the name of it but you can find it out on https://www.spaceweather.com

Clouds and blue

Looking out of the kitchen window this morning I saw blue sky amidst the white puffy clouds. The clouds were breaking up and merging. Reminding me of the song Cloud busting, by Kate Bush

It didn’t last, soon flat layers of cloud spread across the sky, then darker layers built up, piling up as the wind dragged them across the sky. We were on the edge of them, some yellowish light filtered through the upper clouds. So where are the photos? My phone was out of charge and when it was ready for a picture or two? The sun had set.

Esther Chiltons Blog prompt “surprise”

Surprise!
One night I dreamt that I would meet some friends on a road nearby, but since they lived 40 miles away and only cycled that seemed unlikely. I also remembered the dream was on a wet day. Things seemed very clear. But as usual I couldn’t remember the details when I woke up. Then a few days later we decided to ride out and meet some other friends on their farm. It was an overcast day as we started out on our 5 mile ride to visit them. But SURPRISE! In the distance we saw our friends cycling towards us. They must have had the same idea. But they were with some others. It started to rain and as the friends drew closer I realised they were with the people I’d dreamt of! Then we all took shelter under cover of a bus stop. Thunder rumbled and lightening flashing! I realised it was my dream!

Wet

It’s a bank Holiday weekend in the UK so of course we are having 60 to 70 mile an hour winds and very heavy rain in places. We had a bit of rain this morning but not as bad as other areas. Scotland was one of the worst places with very stormy weather. And Leeds festival was hit yesterday, with video of tents blown away in the wind. A food festival was damaged and all the market stalls knocked down. And an articulated truck was almost blown over on the Humber Bridge near Hull. The bridge was later closed to traffic until the storm had passed.

The weather might be a bit better tomorrow, but it’s almost inevitable that with it being a bank Holiday that it won’t be that good. Meanwhile temperatures have been mostly cooler than normal this summer. We have had a few hot spells, but not to the same extent as recently. Apparently the jet stream is to blame and the remains of hurricanes from across the Atlantic coming our way. Happy holiday!
