What to paint….

A little exhibition is coming up in September and I am not sure what, if anything, I can paint. My vision is quite odd now, a bit doubled, a bit blurred.

I’m thinking of possibly painting cats. Just some simple and gentle and nice! With a bit of character. Not a generic cat… Not a pretty cat, a growl tiger, curmugeonly, interesting cat… I don’t know, golden eyes? But first I need to fish some paints out!

Getting up late

I am what they call a night owl. One of those people that stays up too late, can’t sleep and then get up too late. Half the day has gone before I see daylight.

Sometimes I don’t start painting till the afternoon. Then it means that I end up painting under artificial light. That’s OK but it affects he colours that I paint with. The light does make everything look more yellow and you cannot really see blues properly. I will wait till daytime to check the real colour (we live on a planet with blue skies and everything has a blue cast to it, but we don’t see it because our eyesight adjusts to it).

Colour palette

Today’s #30daysketchbookchallenge was paint.

I’d got a swatch card to fill in with my metallic paints I got for Christmas. I filled in the colours in the set and also some normal watercolours I already have.

Then I painted the water brush that comes with the set (you suck water up into it), finally I posed the question… But is it art?

I do love the colours that lie underneath the paint layer on my palette. If you use acrylic paint just try peeling the paint layer off carefully. You might be surprised what you find underneath. Colours that clash or harmonise. This works with Acrylics. It won’t work with watercolours and I think that oil paints would still be wet underneath.

You could take a photo of the outcome and play with it as I have.

Is this art? I don’t know, it’s related to art. If I did a series of these by creating new patterns, or photographing every palette I guess I could say it was art. Maybe a type of painting or even fluid art? I’m not sure.
