Work in progress

So while I forgot to enter the open art exhibition I did at least work on this portrait of a dog. I’ve decided to paint it sitting on a lawn. The original photo had it sitting on a bright blue blanket which in turn sat on a block paving path. I hope it’s owner will like it when I’ve done it.l

Lots of details to add. I need to get the fur shading and colours right, and the thickness of the fur right. The same with the blades of grass. A few more hours work needed.

Mona wip

I managed to do a bit more on this work in progress today. It feels a bit closer to the original. Getting the colours to blend into each other is hard and although I’m using thin glazes the acrylic paint goes off very quickly. The eyes are a little better, but the mouth might be slightly too smiley. I just need to scumble the paint a bit more to soften the tones into one another.

Back at the studio

At Spode studio 21

Well, I’ve finally got back to my studio at spode! I started a small painting of a bottle oven, I think it’s going to have a Van Gogh style sky. I need to start getting some work done for a possible exhibition later in the year. I want to do work about the area, but with a bit of a twist. This is a canvas about two foot by eight inches? It will be acrylic on canvas once I’ve painted in the mortar for the brick work I will add colourful bricks. The sky will swirl with clouds and stars and there may be vegitation or a bit of foliage.

Who’s it going to be?

I’m doing a painting on line, live, next week. I offered to do it for our mystery plays virtual performance next week. Its only going to have a small audience because we can’t have a big group on zoom. I’ve been watching Bob Ross programmes and I’ve always done paintings quickly but I think I’ve bit off more than I can chew!

Anyway I’m going to have just over an hour to get this finished, and better still they want me to start from scratch and if it’s OK they will raffle it off… Wish me luck!

Digital drawing WIP

Trying to draw on the computer using my Wacom tablet. It’s hard because I usually doodle with a finger on my phone or with a stylus on a tablet. I actually find this harder to do, and I need practice. This is for a #bandofsketchers prompt for today. If I get it done I will post it here. Back to work…

Cat work in progress

Looking through my photos of small paintings with gold leaf, I found this of my girl cat. I think I was about half way through this painting. I used the gold leaf to emphasise her eyes and the cushion behind her. I know I have a bit left over. I was not very good at attaching the gold leaf, its hard to stop it wrinkling and breaking up, but I would say its fun to use and have a go if you fancy it.

Trying to design an enamel brooch

Work in progress. Digital drawings of a ‘spotted draon’. I’m thinking of doing something like this for a course project. I thought I’d try and do some working out. It I wanted to make it I would have to learn enamelling techniques and get a kiln to fire it in. But then I would have to cost it and see if its feasible. Or maybe I can design it and then get someone to make it for me? I don’t know. I have a friend who does fused glass, maybe she could help. Life is interesting….
