Purple

Bright purple, showy, flared.

Full of energy,

Life, fun.

Zing-ING, splashed, clamouring

For attention.

Add purple and it blasts through,

Flights of fancy

High pitched song,

Not calm pink

Or barmy blue

Gaudy yellow

Green screen

Orange spice

Ruddy red.

But purple, violet, lavender, plum, grape

Mix blue, red and white

Purple delight

Idea for a quilt

Just playing with the abstract pictures I drew, making a butterfly pattern then duplicating it, adding borders as if each piece was sewn together. I think I could make something out of this using cut pieces of patterned cloth using the butterfly as a template. I’m not sure about the colours as it gets mixed into the pattern. I wondered if I added some black to the background.

I sort of like the more random feel to this. At least I am being creative.

Swirls

When I have had a long day I enjoy doing something creative. These were done with a couple of apps, sketcher free and picsart.  I don’t know why I like swirls and spirals so much.

Anyway here are three iterations. The first was the most complex to create, the second and third led to the first. I started with bright colours and then reduced them by using the curves option, changing each colour to a more muted one and eventually grey.

I think I will just finish here. Today was very busy.

One line drawings.

When I used to draw at Youdraw.com I would do one line drawings. Basically you kept your cursor moving on the drawing area and didn’t lift it until you finished… Thats what I’ve done here … But then duplicated it and flood filled it. Sometimes it’s nice to lose black lines.

I’m having a makeover on social media. I’m now @mallabandbrown on twitter… I will be using it more to post about paintings and other exploratory art that I’m planning over the next few months .

Pattern

untitled_010

Colours, shapes and texture make up this pattern. Using digital apps can create images that would not be easy to create on paper or canvas.img_20190117_002155

Once you have done that you could use another app to duplicate and twist the images. I love patterns and continue to create images like this.

It’s really not hard to do and it would be good to see more art being created in this way. Be brave! Have a go! You might surprise yourself.

Angela’s glass

I bought this lovely handkerchief glass vase after going to a friend’s glass workshop. My partner and I also made ones of our own. I will try and take photos of them.

This peice has graded blue colours from dark to light and smaller square pieces. The pieces of glass are placed on a plain glass layer and melted in a kiln till they fuse. The resulting square of glass is then placed over a cylindrical mold and heated again until it slumps again into a handkerchief shape. This peice was a present for a friend. Like all crafts, glass is something you have to learn  I’m really glad I attended the workshop and would definitely go again, although I don’t know if I could ever get this good.

Cat portraits

Painting cats.
I like painting cats from photographs but sometimes they don’t stay still. These are paintings of Casey and Lucy. Both were painted before I got a digital camera and although they were painted from life the cats didn’t stick around to pose!
Casey could get tangled up in anything, he climbed up shelves and sat in the middle of the road waiting for me. I had been given this kite as a Christmas present and he was determined to play with it!

Lucy on the other hand was an old lady of 21 when I painted her. She didn’t do much as she got older but she loved a fuss.

I added the patterns for both of them to make them more interesting. I’m pleased to take commissions for pet portraits if you are interested.
