Rainy day

Yes it’s raining a lot here in England, so wet I dare not go out. I’m not allowed to get my face wet or get water or grit in my eye.

I really want to go out and do some shopping. I need to get cat food, but it’s still raining after about 12 hours. But I can hear the cars splashing through the water outside the front door. It’s only 2 or 3 steps to my car. But I need to use a brolly and my walking stick, so by the time I’ve put them in the car I will get soaked. Luckily I’m parked right by the pavement so I don’t need to step through a rushing river of water that runs down the gutter. The grates for the run off are full.

Anyway I’m off to grab a coffee… Decaff of course.

Ouchie

I was out at physiotherapy today when I dropped my walking stick on the floor. Instead of doing the sensible thing and standing up, I leant over the thin chair arm and reached down. Fingertips close to the handle I just reached a bit more and something clunked in my side. It was so painful I shouted out. They checked I was OK. I don’t think I’ve broken a rib, but someone suggested I had damaged the cartlidge between my ribs  as my weight came down on the chair arm. I’m OK unless I move, then it twinges. Just worried about lying down tonight. I’ve broken ribs before and that’s painful, this isn’t quite as bad, but it’s definitely annoying!

Peony tree

I’d love to have one of these, I have normal peony plants, but this is a shrub with bright yellow, flowers. Maybe I will treat myself to one as an early birthday present.  I need to maintain my garden but it’s not easy to look after. It’s on a slope and the ivy is taking over, great ground cover but it’s smothering other plants. I need to do some serious pruning if I have the strength. What’s putting me off? I’m scared of slipping and falling. I always take a walking stick out there now to give me a bit more stability. I might offer friends a gardening and cake day to get some work done? Is that a good idea. I don’t know.

No

Was today typical?

No, it wasn’t, but not everyday is. A typical day for me would have been when I was at work. Now I do things for myself I can be running all over the place. Or sitting still.

I had to get this photo taken again because I had sent it off in the wrong format. The deadline was midnight. I had to go out to my studio to take the picture. But I’d hurt my foot (I’m using a walking stick). I had to find out the code for the doors in the ground floor of the studios so I could use the lift. Panicked email to the manager to arrange. I managed to get the photo done.

A friend rang asking for help, but I had to say no for once, I’m in too much pain and I had to prioritise. Then I couldn’t get the shopping done. Hubby came to my rescue. No it wasn’t a typical day…..

Suspisions

I was writing about a budgie earlier and forgot to post what happened this evening.

I posted this information on the local neighbourhood watch page…..
Watch out for someone looking over gates into gardens…
I was watching TV when I saw, through the side  window, a man leaning over our gate and looking into our garden. He was white, probably in his forties, with dark balding hair and about Six feet tall, wearing a dark shirt and trousers.
My husband went after him and caught up with him up the hill. He asked what he was looking at and the man said he’d been looking at my husbands new motorbike (it’s very old and tatty) because his sons Honda motorbike had recently been stolen. He apologised and then they spotted the budgie, (another story). BUT, we have no proof that the man was telling the truth, so I’ve drawn the short straw to stay up and listen out.
And the motorbike is chained with two chains to a ground anchor, the gate is padlocked and chained. So the man hadn’t better bother to come back!
Now! Someone or something has knocked over the milk bottles by our gate so I took a walking stick with me opened the front door and shouted ‘what you doing’ to the street in general. Looked up and down, can’t see anyone. After the motorbike theft in March I’m a bit nervous!
