New paintings and regular art updates.
This is the worst day to travel according to the news today. Fifteen Million people were due to visit relatives or jet away. Then it rained, and it has flooded in several places. Traffic in and out of Gatwick Airport has been seriously delayed. There are flood warnings on rivers in the south of the country. I hope people are going to get where they want to, safely. In the past it would have been snow, or ice, now its pouring with rain.
Being honest with myself, what’s been happening in the UK has really upset and depressed me. The government has just become strongly right wing Conservative after a general election. People seemed to use it as another Brexit referendum (a vote for the UK to leave the European Union). The world keeps turning, but my country seems to be turning inward on itself. Promises were made but are already apparently being broken, where promises to support workers rights have been withdrawn.
So my depression is not internal but has external causes. If I wasn’t to bothered about what happens to people perhaps I could be blasé about it and just feel happy to celebrate the season. But I can’t help worrying about what’s going to happen in the future. I hope this mood lifts soon.

I’m really pleased to have some of my paintings up at the Brampton museum and art gallery from 16.11.19 to early January 2020. This is an opportunity for local artists to sell their work in the weeks coming up to Christmas. If you feel like having a look I’d recommend it, there’s lots to see and to buy.
It’s going to be a busy few weeks. Not helped by my having a fall at the weekend. I haven’t painted as much as I wanted and I’ve hardly been out of the house. But I mustn’t let it stop me trying to get things done over the next week or so.
I’m going to do some more green, or snowy men, try and get some cards printed and get some glass jewellery finished off..

We’ve had a visit from a kind lady who offered to check if Woody is microchipped. He is! We have the number from it and have contacted the local branch of the cats protection league as the firm he is registered with can’t pass on his details as its data protected.
Hopefully he will be reunited, or rehomed soon.

What do you do on a wet Wednesday when you are still feeling ill with a cold? Why not watch prime ministers question time? It was fascinating. (I’m probably being boring) the leader of the opposition asked some serious questions and the prime minister waffled. He went off on a tangent, avoided answering the questions. Blustered, smirked, was sarcastic. It was almost like watching a soap opera! I genuinely wanted to boo and hiss! Not done my blood pressure any good.
I think though, that it is important to know what’s going on in politics. The world is a complicated place and if you don’t keep yourself informed you can’t argue for or against them.

Britain is in a fog, continent isolated. Which was something like a headline in the 1950’s?
Britain is due to leave the EU (European Union) on 31st October because some of the British people decided in 2016 that they wanted to leave.
But now our new prime minister has decided to prorogue parliament, that means stopping parliament meeting for five weeks to stop them fighting against brexit. It appears that he wants to leave Europe without a deal. That means we might end up paying tariffs to import or export goods, there is also a chance that our health service will be privatised further and difficulty importing medicines and food.
It seems ridiculous that this has happened. He’s even got the queen involved, asking for her approval. It’s madness.
So why prorogue? Our prime minister says he needs the time to announce new policies, funny, previous prime ministers don’t usually do that.
In the meantime there is a petition which has been going just today and has already over 596000 signatures. The madness in this country seems to be the populism that is washing over the world. Not just here but in America and places like Brazil.
In the time it took to write it the petition has topped 600000!
I did a calculation today because I love newspapers and we get them virtually every day, but a friend asked how we could afford it…..
The result was scary! It turns out if we buy a paper every day of the week it costs hundreds of pounds!
Hiw on earth didn’t I realise this. My partner also buys a magazine every week… Help!
Luckily I’ve realised if I subscribe just for the weekday papers it would cost 2/3 the price (or we could stop buying it completely, which is possibly the more sensible option.
We want to keep informed and find out what’s going on in the world. But with fake news on the Internet and a biased press I prefer to read a paper I trust…. So we will consider the subscription route.
