Anemometer

My Anemometer is spinning round

Twirling and twisting…

Maybe March winds have arrived?

The old saying goes

March is either in like a Lion and out Like a Lamb

Or vice versa…..

Today was gusty as a growling lion

Soon it’s paws might carry it

Across the land

Howling and Roaring.

Then gentle showers of April

Will come again…

Hello Spring.

Wet!

There is a saying ‘in like a lamb, out like a lion’ (and vice versa) when it comes to March weather. We also talk about March winds.

After a very dry February, March has turned wild. It started quietly, but as the month has progressed the rain and wind has blown in over the Atlantic, causing low pressure systems to scud over us with record levels of rain falling.

Last night the wind was howling, one of the cats ran in, his coat glistening with rain. He looked like an otter that was just out of a river! He slept under the cover of my chair, like it was a little cave to keep warm in. He knows when to stay warm despite seemingly loving the awful weather.

Farming remembered

My hubby was brought up on farms and remembers the byres and barns of Yorkshire and Lancashire. His childhood was spent between going to school and working on farms in the summer holidays. When he was old enough he would even drive tractors. His father was a farm labourer and went from farm to farm following the seasonal work. Sometimes hubby fed cattle, other times he helped plough or harvest crops. They even raised day old chick’s in the attic of their house.

It sounds like a hard life, but an interesting one. He did this drawing of a tractor a few years ago. There are ducks, lambs and yes that’s meant to be a cow. X

Out for food.

Just back from a delicious meal at Sangams balti House in Stoke-upon-trent, the town Stoke-on-Trent City is named after.

I had a King Prawn and Lamb balti, and a garlic nan. My friends had a fish dupiaza and a Chicken and mushroom dupiaza. There are two Sangam Balti restaurants here. I think because they needed more space they were so popular.

There is no alcohol served on the premises but you can take your own. The portion sizes are good and the food is hot and tasty.

Worth a visit if you are in town.

March Winds

Tomorrow is March

Month of winds

Whirling round

Sharp and clean..

March comes in

Like a lion

Fights with the world

Shreds trees.

Like a dragon

Breathing cold fire

Bringing rain

And late snow ….

Or

March comes in like a lamb

First day of meteorological spring…

Gentle breezes

Kiss the blossom

Arriving early

In warm breath.

Then the old saying goes

In like a lion, out like a lamb

Or

In like a lamb out like a lion…

Whatever way..

March Roars !
