Peachs on a bush. This was an espaliered bush where the branches are held against the wall horizontally. This allows the fruit to set on the branches and grow bigger and more juicy as the summer goes on. The photo was taken at the Dorothy Clive garden n the Staffordshire countryside. I would have loved to have tasted one of them.
Our pear tree grows lovely pears. These were sweet and juicy when they ripened. And big too. They are lovely baked into a pie or a cake, or just freshly sliced.
Pears seem to take ages to ripen, then suddenly they all get ripe at once. Five years ago we had a massive crop, this year much more meagre. Perhaps the tree blossom was too early, and the bees and other pollinators hadn’t emerged yet? Or maybe the wind blew the blossom off to soon. Hopefully next year will be a good crop?

Spotted leaves are wilting
It looks like it’s ripened
I must carve its flesh
Before it’s too late
Sweet yellow and sharp
Shall we have custard or cream?
Or just plain and succulent?
Last time we had one..

Really..
Looking forward to it.

Juicy and sweet
Packed with yellow pulp
Delicious with cream
Or in an upside down cake.

People who read my blog a few weeks ago know that our pear tree had blown over, leaving the branches only about eight feet above the ground. We have had to prop it up with large pieces of wood. I have almost collected what was left on the tree and the ones we have are criss crossed with scars and dents. But once you peel the skin off they are juicy and sweet to eat. This photo was taken last year and I like it because the warm light is shining horizontally and turning the pears into almost liquid gold colours?
