On WhatsApp

Having photos appear on WhatsApp can be odd. I get the pictures loaded into my gallery. I appreciate them all but I don’t always remember who sent them, that means I don’t always remember to reply!

So.. If you sent me this santa Christmas card, thank you! I’ll try and remember to send my cards out before it’s too late! X

Where did this come from?

WhatsApp photo of a rainbow a friend sent me. For some reason it appeared in my gallery. I get all sorts of photos from friends and I wouldn’t normally share them, but this is Yorkshire terraced house rooves with a rainbow above them. I like the sunset. You can just see an arc of colour in the sky.

The rainbow is above the houses, and the fronts of them are catching the sunlight. It shows how the sun must always be on the opposite side of the sky to a rainbow. The prisms of the rain drops scattering the light.

When I was younger I saw a rainbow coming down to the ground in front of me. It was about 50 yards away. As I walked towards it, it moved away at walking pace. Then I started to jog and it moved away at the same pace as I was travelling.

It was fascinating, and it stayed in my memory, so everytime I see these beautiful  light shows I appreciate it.

Random photos,

My friend often sends me photos on WhatsApp. I don’t know what is going to pop up in my messages until they appear. This time he sent me a series of pictures from Saltaire Food festival. Saltaire is near Bradford in Yorkshire. It’s got small, stone built terraced houses, mostly a living room and small kitchen and two bedrooms and a bathroom. I think they filmed the new version of “The Railway Children ” movie there.

At the end of summer it puts on a great market full of food stalls from all over the world. We went a few years ago and discovered Churos from Spain. Like a mixture of sponge fingers and doughnuts crossed with each other. We tried curries and paella. There was a giant lobster balloon. It was very busy when we went. If you are in the area it’s worth a visit.

I don’t know where this came from?

It’s the sort of photo I’d take, but I don’t remember it? It might be something that’s on my phone from a WhatsApp post, so if it is apologies to the owner. I’ve posted this here because I’m a member of a group called the peeling paint appreciation society on Facebook. Some of their images are amazing. I do wonder if some have had the saturation and sharpness enhanced. I feel like I should look out for more interesting images.

Saltaire fair

I want to go

My friend sent me this via WhatsApp and I wish I could go, but Saltaire is too far, it’s near Leeds, and I can’t drive that far. I also already have something on on 3rd June. However in the interest of sharing news I thought I’d post this here.

Saltaire is having all sorts of activities this summer. There is a food festival, and it has Salts Mill, a famous Mill that was built by a Victorian industrialist and benefactor. Salts Mill has a bookshop and Gallery and restaurant. It also has a collection of the artist David Hockneys art.

Facebook down?

Fed up? You might be. Apparently Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp have been down for the last five hours. The link to them has somehow severed. Am I bothered? Not really, I’ve got lots I can do and it’s nice to have a break from social media. I’m one of the older people using it, so while it’s good to chat (and blog) I’m no influencer and I’m not bothered about not being able to shout into the blank abyss. I went back to choir practice after two weeks tonight. I enjoyed it. Reality beats digital!

Dragon fly

The odd things people send to each other on WhatsApp. I was trying to draw a dragonfly and someone told me she had got one that she had found in her she’d last year. She sent me this picture. I think it’s been preserved in plastic? I was going to delete the photo, but I was quite fascinated by the wings and the reflections on it. Hence this random post…..
