Books, books,
Glorious books
Never too many
For stirring the blood
So follow me
follow me
Up to the library
And there we
shall wallow
In glorious Books!
(after the song ‘Mud mud glorious mud’ by Flanders and Swann).
New paintings and regular art updates.

Toowit toowoo
Male and female
Singing to each other
Across the night.
Tawny owls
Once I heard them
Up, beyond the house
In the trees.
Calling
Toowit toowoo!
Ow gone
Sad memories

Tonight was the first time our choir sang (sort of) together…
But of course its not that easy. When you sing with someone else there is a time delay. It’s not possible to sing in time. It’s fine when you are talking but even a slight delay in sound makes everything very strange. Tonight our hosts were a couple who teach us up at the village hall on a Monday.
So we were muted whilst singing, listening along to the hosts and singing our parts. Then unmuted to chat afterwards. And yes we used the now ubiquitous Zoom, but that’s OK.
Then of us got to see each other fit the first time in months, even though it was only cyberspace. Now for a brew.

I can’t take a photo of a bird in the dark so this will have to do.
The dawn chorus has started. I’m not sure what bird is singing , but I think it’s probably a robin based on its liquid and melodius song. All my windows and doors are double glazed, except one above our front door, that is a single glazed half circle with a stained glass window inside it. But it is enough to let the wonderful sound through.
I can’t tell if it’s one bird. There is a tiny hint of a response, but too far away to hear clearly. There are gaps in the song as if the singer is listening? Maybe we will have a Robins nest in the garden for Spring?

Good night

Sneak peek of the washing machine front I’ve painted. Today was the dress rehearsal, one person had a problem as her trouser elastic snapped and they fell off as she was trying to make her entrance. I was practicing part of a song, and forgot to go on stage to sing that song. We got a lot of feedback on the mike’s. One of the helpers or cast got a parking ticket even though they were arked correctly… I still can’t remember all my lines, and in one scene the person before me completely forgot his so I didn’t know where I was! And breathe….
But on the whole we are getting it. There are lots of songs, dance, sketches, a nice story, an evil villan and lots of fun.

After singing ‘Green grow the rashes o’ by the Scottish author and musician Robert Burns, we started learning a new song at choir tonight. It’s called ‘Ay waukin o’. It’s not about walking, but about waking or being awake. Not being able to think because of thinking of her dearie.
The melody is beautiful, rising and falling in sweet harmonies. Singing about lanely (lonely) night. Everyone else sleeping, and she sings ‘and bleer my eyes wi weepin’.
So beautiful. Its music I’ve never heard before, I’m pleased we are learning it.

Dah, da, Dah Dah, da da da Dah, da da
Argh! Being part of a choir is wonderful. Until you learn a really catchy tune. Dah da da Dah… Then it sticks in your head.. Da dda… And won’t go away! Especially when it’s quiet.. Dee Dee Dah…. Apparently older women tend to get auditory hallucinations based on old hymns. Glad I don’t have that problem. But… Dah da… But… I do have an ear worm… Wiggling about in my head …. Dah de da de Dah….
Sing high, sing low, sing medium
No sound evokes emotions as much as song.
Sing sweet, sing dry, sing rich.
Music stills hearts and makes them soar.
Sing soft, sing deep, sing life,
Happiness and sorrow can be drawn out.
Sing loud, sing quiet, sing laughter.
Your life, your heart, your dream.
