Fun with documents (not)

Someone needs my original document to process a claim. I don’t want to send it as it could get lost in the post. Oh send a certified copy they said. Where do I do that? Solicitors or a doctors? I’m fed up. I’m sick of dealing with paperwork. All I’ve done today is cleaned a windowledge of dead plants that I have neglected recently. It’s all I can think of doing today.

Samantha

If you had to change your name, what would your new name be?

I was going to be Samantha, it was one of the names that my parents had considered for me. I suppose that might be the name I would choose? But why would I need to change my name? I hope I never have to.

To change your identity must be a drastic thing to do. I know you can change your name just by telling people, but to be legally accepted don’t you have to do it by deed poll?

Then, there are documents you need to have to identify yourself. Driving licences, energy suppliers, proof of address, background checks for some jobs. Even mortgages or tenancy agreements, or getting married or using the health service.

If you change your name do you tell friends and colleagues? What will they think? Maybe you are trying to get away from someone or somewhere. Life is complicated enough without a change of name. So no I’m not going to change.

I do know people who have changed their names for whatever reason. They were happy to change, but it just felt strange to me. I have accepted the new names but I still think of them as their original names.

Searching

Five hours searching paperwork. I’ve still nof found everything I need. I have got to get some information in by the end of this month but can I find it? Can I Heck! It’s always the same. I put things away somewhere I think it will be safe, but then I’ve lost it a year or so later. So frustrating. I also blame the fear of identity theft. I keep more documents than I need to because I don’t want to put anything that identifies us in the waste bin. I should shred things but my shredder gets too hot so it doesn’t get used very often.

Which Saint so I pray to, to find things? Is it the Saint of lost causes?

Why do things go wrong

Splat!

Just when you think things are OK sometimes they go wrong.

Case in point, we have to get copies of documents sent in for something. I collected everything together but a couple of things are missing. We went to the shop and got a copy of the sales invoice. Then I checked a document and its not up to date, it was done on line but we were never sent the original documents. Much head scratching, swear words, contacting people. I hope I have sorted it out, but you never know.

I suppose the thing to realise is that lots of people are struggling too. It’s just life and beauracracy, we have to have bits of paper to prove things. But now they do things online… It’s not simple. You have to log in and remember passwords. Only I have a different one for everything! Splat, my mind is whirling.

Documents

Please provide…. ‘ xxxxxx’ said the email. Various documents for our insurance claim. So, you then realise you have too many documents. Piles and piles, because you don’t want to have identity theft and the shredder got too hot last time you used it….

So, going through pile four of eight lots you find one thing. You ask hubby if he knows where things are and he hands you something. So that’s two out of ten things you need…

I looked through it all. Found nothing else.. Rang up the shop we bought the thing from… Yes they can let us have a copy of something..

Then I looked at the table I’d got things on. There underneath everything was a crucial document. I hadn’t seen it before because I had put it upside down to write notes on the back! Phew!

Then I asked hubby because I can’t find another document. ‘that’s online ‘ he said. I found the email… What’s the password? ‘I don’t know’ came the reply.

Having a rest. Will ring Monday. Peeved.
