Bench painting wip

Started this acrylic on canvas today. It’s from a photo of Westport Lake I took at the weekend, it’s about 9 inches by 6. Or maybe a bit bigger? I want to do more to the trees and undergrowth. I’ve got some metallic bronze to give a watery reflective effect. I like the empty bench, it feels lonely and reflective.

Quick fox

Work in progress

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog…..

A statement that contains all the letters of the alphabet and also was used to improve typing skills I think?

This is a tiny miniature, it needs more detail, less splodges. I will try and get more of a furry look to it. I might add a bit of blue to the snowy background so that it looks more realistic. Only 6 more to paint!

Afternoon views

A few views of where I set up to paint along side a family, gran, mother and daughter who were all painting. I really enjoyed the company. It’s good to be finally involved with other artists. We were at the top of the slope looking down at the Hall. Other people arrived and some went on to paint the lovely garden. I’ll post a few more photos later.

WIP my friends dog

To reduce my stress levels I decided to start a small watercolour of my friend Martha’s dog. I’ve been promising it for ages, but with everything that’s been going on I decided to wait until I felt slightly happier. Anyway, the floodgates finally opened today and I was able to finish two portraits. So why not make another start. It’s nice to use watercolours again. Hard to keep the colours light enough. I shall post it soon, about A5 size.

Almost done….

Where to stop?

The cogs are a bit messy on the hat. I might change the shading, but I’m painting under electric light now so it’s got a different cast or hue to how it was painting in daylight. But it’s almost done…. Tiring and hard to see details…. I’ve added a few gold highlights, I might add some silvers. I will have it done by tomorrow I think….

Are you bored yet?

Adding some swirliness to mimic a digital style I like. Why shouldn’t digital and analogue ideas merge? I’m not channelling Van Gogh, just having a bit of fun with texture. I’m going to calm down the Green glasses and add some silver or gold to them… I need to work out how the sky will look. But now… A rest!

More splodging

Getting placement and colours right. I like this composition because it has red and green complementary colours. But with yellows and blues to jazz it up. I need to sort out the chin and the fence. It needs to go backwards and the face to come forwards. There is detail on the gate and face I haven’t added yet, but the paint is wet and I don’t want it to become too blurry.

A bit more?

Getting there. I can see my mistakes on this. I need to get the shape right. Maybe sort the tyres out, one side is wider than the other. I might calm the pale green down.

I have these rushes of painting. Something boils over and I have to paint. I have just started another one. Something a bit different, blue and black diagonals. That’s going to be an abstract. I’ve got to finish off tonight as I’m selling these on a little stall tomorrow! Eek!
