My friend brought this to our writing group today. She had written a story about it because she has loved it all her life and has shown it to some antiques experts. I asked if I could draw it.
She called it “The little runner”. I sketched it today. It’s of a running greyhound. It’s a studio pottery piece by Anne Potts, an Art Deco ornament she made aged 16 in the 1930’s. Totally unique. She went on to be a famous potter from Stoke-on-Trent.
We are all unique, even twins have their own traits. Their fingerprints are different, their hair follicles are not identical. Faces vary because of our genetics but also our physical lives. How external circumstances affect body and mind. We may have doppelgangers but they won’t be exactly the same. We should revel in our differences, appreciate our odd ways, enjoy knowledge and learn from each other.
Some people excel at science, others in the arts. Why not a bit of both, with other skills added to the mix. Unique ideas and resources to make the world a more interesting place?
Our voices are unique but can be copied. Mimics try and speak celebrity words, but a voice print would clarify who was really talking. It’s only things like AI that could truly copy. And that would be a loss to humanity. I think us all being unique is best.
My Cat is staring at me, he’s been doing it for a while, I get the impression he wants something, maybe food or milk. I woke up from a nap and saw him just sitting there, so I took a quick shot of him. Cats have their own way of doing things, this cat is definitely unique.
Right, I’d better go and feed him and put the heating on it’s blooming cold!
I’m pleased to say one of my necklaces, made of dichroic fused glass has gone to a good home. Fused glass is a way of heating and melting various colours of glass together to make a unique pendant.
I made these a few years ago, I haven’t really pushed the sale of them as I’m concentrating on my paintings, but every so often I get them out and today I gifted one to a friend who kindly helped me out.
I will try and sell the rest of them this year. It’s about time they all found new homes!
What flame or glimmer of character makes a person unique? I guess everyone has their own foibles, that could be size or shape, colour or religion or none of the above. If identical twins can have their own thoughts and ideas then everyone has the ability to be unique if they are allowed to be.
Most of all I think it is in the mind that the unique aspect lies, nature versus nurture is the phrase that people use, but life is chaotic, it twists and turns, there may really be a multiverse out there where every step in one direction or another changes the outcome of a person’s life, but some of it has to be down to how they think and react? How else can you explain the diametrically opposite results that can occur in families, or how sometimes similarities between non related people happen? All I can say is its good to be unique!
