You’ve got to sketch them
Black and white cats
They gang up on you
And beg to be represented.
Make us handsome and beautiful
They miaow at me.
So I scribble a sketch.
Thank you they say.
That’ll do!

An unexpected coming together
A grouping of cats
A bundle of fluffy foofs
Cats enjoying warmth
Cuddled happiness
It doesn’t happen often.
But they are happy….

I can’t sleep, my bad leg is achy and itchy, I’m hungry because we had tea hours ago. I want comfort food. Sweet but not full of sugar. I found a croissant in the fridge and cut it in half lengthways. I’ve peeled a banana and I’m having a banana croissant. For a warm drink I’ve got a mug of milky decaffeinated tea. Not sure if any of this will make me feel better. I’m also surrounded by three cats intermittently mooching round me, coming up for attention, purring and poddling. 2.38am, aching, possible indigestion and cats. What a combination!

Yes, we have three cats
Hungry, playful, cheeky
Are not their names
Sometimes together
Sometimes apart
Chasing each other
Loving toys
Liking treats
Eating catnip.
Hiding in, under, on.
Jumping, climbing, causing
Fun and trouble
Things, found, battled
Played with.
Equipped with claws and teeth
And purrs and growls
Formidable felines!
Nine lives!
While I was writing this morning all three cats came upstairs to see me. This is one of the boy cats. FURRY NINJAS, pounce on anything. It’s fun to watch them all interact. You can catch them eyeing up the warmest places to sleep. One of them will move and another will take its place. A noise from a cupboard? A cat is washing, or snoring! Life with cats is fun.

Our outdoor, now indoor boy cat (seen sleeping here) seems to think he’s obliged to pay rent for staying here! It is quite upsetting when he brings small rodents like shrews and mice in. Sometimes we manage to rescue them. I hate it when he has a mouse moustache! I’m trying to teach him not to do it, but mostly I shout and tell him off and he looks bewildered (and bewhiskered).
Last night was mad. The mouse he bought in escaped into the bathroom but we managed to get it out by shutting our three cats in the kitchen and opening the back door. Since the bathroom is downstairs it was just a short run out for the mouse. The cats were contented with some cat food and we breathed a sigh of relief. I hope it doesn’t happen again soon!
