Big little kitty

This cat is big! He’s the biggest cat we’ve ever had. And yet he’s gentle and much more loving than he was when we first took him in.

He was known as ‘the outside cat’ at first. But we gave him a name and gradually he touched our hearts. He had been abandoned by his previous owners and was thin and a bit standoffish at first. For a long time he was outside and my other two cats stayed inside, they were rescues and we didn’t want them to stray onto the main road. We were also concerned they might catch something from the new cat.

I can’t believe how long it’s been since we let him in the house, and the other two out. Basically I would lock the cat flap so he could come in to eat but I would have to let him out so the two couldn’t go. But even then he was getting bigger and he would push and push on the cat flap until he broke it! We glued the split cat flap back together with a layer of plastic and sellotape. But eventually I got another flap and cut it down so the door to it would fit into the original mechanism.

Since then, this cat has thrived. He jumps up between us when we ask, he’s gentle with the other two (he eats as much as both of them put together though!). I love them all, but he has a special place in my heart.

Comfort cat

Our boy cat is sitting half on a cushion, half on my hubbies lap. This is unusual, he’s always been quite nervous. He will normally sit or lie between us on a cushion between the two arm chairs. He sometimes puts his paws on me, but even now, after a few years, he’s still quite nervous. That’s because he was abandoned by his previous owners and he was living outside for a couple of years. At least now he trusts us after a lot of love and encouragement. Finally, he’s being a lap cat x.

The loudest miaow!

I was sitting in the living room tonight and instead of tapping at the cat flap like he normally does, our adopted cat gave an enormous miaow/yowl. I could hear him above the TV!

He then came in, had some food and drink, sat by my feet for a few minutes, purring very loudly then: Miarowwww… He’s up and wants letting out again. That cat has got powers of persuasion! No doubt he will be back in an hour or so.

No sign of the outdoor cat?

Well he is around, and he did come in and eat earlier on, but despite it blowing a gale he doesn’t seem to want to come in. I think becausemy hubby has dragged him in a few times so he has decided he might be trapped inside (this despite spending two hours on the settee last night). I guess he knows his own mind, he yowls loudly to get out once he’s in and the door is shut… We will make progress I’m sure. But on his terms, not ours.

Cats, they take over…

You have to be owned by a cat. You don’t own it. My cats know what they want and when they want it. The boy stares sweetly at me when he wants a titbit from my plate. His sister miaows at me when she wants food or petting. Both are very relaxed around us most of the time, but even though they are fully grown, they still have mad half hours when they meet up, sniff noses and then start chasing each other.

My female cat must be a reincarnated football player, she has several small toys made out of ping-pong balls that she bat’s backwards and forwards between her front paws along the length of the living room and kitchen… I’ve trodden on them in the dark.. Ouch!

The boy likes sleeping on my lap or chest. He gets on my lap and effectively pins me down. Eventually I have to pick him up and put him on the floor. He doesn’t like that.

Cats are great pets, self sufficient but loving.

Our outside cat comes in occasionally now. He is tolerated by the other two. I think he’s getting more used to them… Fingers crossed he will be in by winter.
