Helicopter overhead

Stock photo

Something was happening. The whirring sound of a helicopter grew closer, then it was overhead, I was inside my house and didn’t know exactly where it was but it was very loud! Then three police cars, sirens blaring, drove up the street.

I decided not to go out and look, as I didn’t know if it was some sort of car chase and my front door opens directly onto the pavement and street. I’d just watched the news about speeding cars and I didn’t want to see a crash.

The Helicopter was circling overhead, but with a phone flat battery I couldn’t take a photo (usually helicopters here are transporting supplies or patients to the local hospital). The helicopter got very close and very loud which was a bit frightening. More police cars shot up the hill, what was going on? After about a quarter of an hour things calmed down. I used the excuse of going out to pick up my milk off the garden gate at the side of the house to see what was happening. What I saw about 50 to 100 yards up the hill were some police cars, blue lights flashing, on the street and more inside the yard of the local pottery factory. Something has clearly happened there. I guess I will have to wait for this afternoons or evenings news.

All day yesterday

It felt like I spent a whole day looking at people’s comments about the American election. The website Threads was full of discussions about how frightening it is for women.

It seems that support for Trump has increased across the country, feelings that he is some sort saviour abound. Why?

And what about his felonies, his lies, his bankruptcies? It seems that these things have been spoken about so much they have been normalised. It’s that old idea, water off a ducks back.

As long as eggs and milk are cheaper, who cares about cutting health care and pensions. I’m aghast at how selfish the results seem. We will see what happens. But it’s also frightening for the rest of the world.

Ukraine power cuts

Russian missiles continue to bombard the Ukrainian infrastructure. They are being used to damage and destroy power stations and water works. The Ukrainian population are being asked to accept regular power cuts so that there will be enough power for hospitals, and drinking water is becoming increasingly scarce, with people queuing to collect enough water to survive, and where can they get food. With the damage that has been done to the buildings in the country it means that as winter begins to bite in Ukraine the population will have to try and cope in such dangerous situations. I hope that they will survive, we have not forgotten the fact that Russia continues it’s cruel war on its Western neighbour.

Builders?

DSC_2172

As I reported a couple of days ago, my neighbour had had a new gas boiler installed and they drilled through into our living room knocking off some plaster.

The saga continues. This photo is of the boiler exhaust pipe, which the builder/plumber said was going to be fixed in place by his mate today. He’s used CARDBOARD to fill in the gap. The hole is right next door to us and if water gets in I don’t know what damage it will do! I’ve heard of cowboy builders, but not cardboard ones!

My neighbour is elderly and may not get the service he paid for. I don’t want to complain to him. But it the builders don’t come back I might contact trading standards or even pay for the work to be done myself.
