What brings a tear of joy to your eye?

Not Harvey

I haven’t seen it for years, but the film Harvey, starring the inimitable James Stewart makes me so happy. No one else could have played Elwood P Dowd, a rich eccentric who has a puca or celtic spirit in the form of an invisible 6ft 3 and 1/2 in white rabbit walking around with him. Elwood introduces the puca to friends and acquaintances at bars and parties, socialising with them and having a whale of a time.

It’s hard to explain what happens as it’s a complex story. Suffice to say Elwood’s sister and neice get involved when Elwood and Harvey spoil his  nieces wedding party. They plot to get him (Elwood) put into a Sanatorium because they think he’s mad. But Elwood is released when his sister admits to occasionally seeing Harvey too! Plot twists ensue and silly things happen. But it all works out OK… Wikipedia has a good explanation of the story. Look up Harvey (1950’s film) there to get a full explanation.

Chocolate and bunny

After the choir singing and procession I realised just how tired I was. We went into the robuck centre in Newcastle under Lyme and stopped at the cafe in the atrium. I wanted something to drink and somewhere comfortable to sit down and rest my ankles and knees!

The cafe was called Family Bakery Cafe. It was friendly and had cakes and pastries on offer this afternoon so I treated myself to a hot chocolate drink and a poppyseed pastry swirl to go with it.

The robuck centre has many closed shops but it sounds like more stores will be opening up. I hope so, the cafe is a good thing to have because it’s hand made cakes are delicious. But the way things have been no one has any money at the moment. I wish this small business all the best. X

Mural in Stoke

Watch out, there’s a Leopard about. Take a walk in the wild side of Stoke, down a side street, off the main road. Strong colours against a black background. Stars shine out from the painting. I want to find out if this is finished or whether there is more to come. What is it painted in? Will it be permanent or will it flake and fade in a few years. It’s painted directly onto the brick so I imagine it will weather and peel.

Round the back of B’arts are a series of three murals. I think they may be constellations? I know there is a star group called Draco but I’m not sure about the Leopard or the Hare /rabbit? Anyway it’s a random piece of art but I do like it. There are chalked in letters above each animal so I’m guessing it’s not finished yet? Whatever, I love the movement in the animals. Good to see colourful art in the area.

Sketchfu was another site I drew at. More sophisticated than Youdraw. It closed when the owners decided to send more time on another website. Lots of artists drew there. I made many friends and we did various challenges like copying photos of objects, but I also liked the freedom. You could also add to other people’s drawings. So it was almost like a joint animation. Like everything else in the world, things change, they never stay the same.
