I appreciate the NHS!

What a day!

Showered, then out for my podiatry appointment. I’d stubbed my toe last week and had a blood blister on my big toe.

Whilst being examined I told the podiatrist about my left leg. I have problems with the skin and when I showered it got very red and sore.

The podiatrist sent me off to my General Practitioner and said she would email them photos of my leg.

I got to the GPS, but they had no appointments, so they sent me off to a Walk in Centre that looks after more serious patients. When I got there I was triaged, then seen. By then my blood pressure was skyrocketing. We are going through a severe storm and it was very frightening, no wonder I was worked up.

They decided I needed to see a doctor but as the Walk in Centre was nurse led I would have to go to Accident and Emergency. That is near where I live, and I know the parking situation is terrible!

I was just getting in my car when the phone rang. The GP has given me an appointment in the morning. I didn’t need to go to A+E.

What I’m explaining is that all this was done in one day. I didn’t have to pay, because we all contribute to the health services in out general taxes. No massive premiums to be treated. Yes there is some private medicine, and there are sometimes problems, but we are very lucky to have the NHS!

Long day

Drs appointment, then lunch with a friend I haven’t seen for months. Then I had a telephone appointment with someone else. Finally I’ve been to the local church to rehearse with a choir for a fundraising event. After weeks of being ill things are catching up with me. I’m trying hard to make my life a bit better. To see what I’m still capable of. I need to change my diet and get some other health problems sorted  out.

Out all day

It’s been a long day. We went to the seaside to visit a relative but when we went to the sea it was fenced off! Apparently there is work being done on the sea defences to protect the coast from flooding.

That was really disappointing but we did visit a friendly ‘cat cafe’ which was lovely. The cats and kittens are being well looked after and it was very calming after a long drive.

Annoyed

Long day, some nice people came in and saw the exhibition. Then as we were thinking if packing up a man came in and said something along the lines of “this isn’t the sort if exhibition I was expecting” and walked back out. It felt rude. Dismissive, inconsiderate. I didn’t know what to say, perhaps I should have challenged him? Maybe he wanted to see sculptures, or abstract pictures? He might have wanted to see digital photos of canal boats? But it does say art exhibition. Then you get the fear that it’s not good enough. Not fine enough. Not special enough. But I it a lot of love and effort into what I do. It’s my art. I don’t want to do something like anyone else.

So I’m peeved, I feel annoyed, dismissed. Maybe I’m being thin skinned. It’s partly that, and partly because I got £40 out of the bank this morning so I could get us lunch and also buy Richard a book about trains. But somewhere between the cashpoint and the car, or the car and the museum, I lost it. I tried going through my bag and cleared all the old receipts out of it. No sign, I rang the lace I got the money from. No joy. I looked in the car. Again no. So. Deep breath. I must ut it behind me as an annoying day. Tomorrow is another day. Life is like that….

Busy time…..

Suddenly I’ve got a million and one things to do, a commission here,  a sketch there, painting for an open day, painting for an annual exhibition. Also a craft fair… What do I do.. I decided to rest today. I felt stressed and worried so I thought let it be for a day. Instead I repotted old houseplants and went to choir practice. I’m still tired after that, but I don’t feel rushed off my feet. You can only do what you can do. I’ve also told the people who want flat pieces of foam board painted  with landscapes that they will have to wait.

The result of resting was some photos of the plants I have potted up. As usual I played with the images. Being creative is so important to me.

Now it’s 2.30am, a cold wind is blowing round the house. Sometimes you can hear the wind whistling through gaps round the windows. But at least I’ve had a break. Tomorrow I’ll try and get more painting done.
