Youdraw.com was a simple black and white site with small and large black pens and erasers. The space to draw in was tiny but people drew wonderful images. For a while I drew and moderated at the site. It was trying to collect 500,000 drawings to represent population growth. I had to delete rude and racist pictures, and spent hours on some days deleting the same scrawl over and over again till the person posting eventually gave up. The site then had protection put in place to block the bad posters, so things improved. Then I found I couldn’t make enough time to volunteer anymore so I had to stop. This drawing was one of mine X

One of my Youdraw drawings, the website may open back up again next year. Currently they are showing some of the artists works on Instagram.

I did over 11,000 drawings on the site. The only tools were a thick and thin black pen and a thick and thin eraser. The canvas size was only about two inches high by one inch wide. But that simplicity gave the site charm and also a challenge to create interesting images.

A tiny sketch I did at Youdraw.com of Audrey Hepburn a few years ago. I drew it in a tiny box on the site using a thick and thin black pen and thin and thick eraser. I added the pink later. That’s why the image is pixellated. It’s interesting if you can make something recognisable from only a few marks.

Youdraw is a website that used to rely on Java script but after a while of being down its started up again. The area you draw on is only an inch by two inches in portrait orientation. You have a thick and thin black pen and a thick and thin eraser. But despite the limitations if you played with it you could thin the black lines or reduce the eraser marks. I did thousands of drawings there as Christine M-B. I’ve done just a few since it’s started back up. They are trying to collect 500,000 drawings. I copied a lot of my drawings and added colour to them.

Youdraw.com where I drew for years before having problems logging into it a few years ago. But unlike other Web pages they have tried to modernise it. In the past it relied on java script, but now they have got rid of some of the glitches. There are still a few problems but I’ve done three drawings recently.

I’ve now counted that I’ve done 13690 drawings there! That’s mad, but true. I love the simplicity of the site. Two blacken, two erasers. Simple.

I was mooching about my PC looking for old pictures that had been saved onto it before I had to have it fixed. Well after ages of searching I found the old drive they are on. It comes with a timeline, so I can find when they were posted. These are a few of my drawings from Youdraw in 2005. I also helped moderate the site. Apparently its been upgraded. When I’ve got my new drawing tablet I might draw some more.

Memories of Youdraw, a website I drew at years ago. Each block was tiny and you only had two black pens and two erasers. Together you could use them to draw black and white pictures. The intention was to collect 500,000 drawings. But they had to be acceptable. Sometimes there were rude pictures, scribbles and racist remarks. I was asked to volunteer as a moderator and used to spend hours deleting the bad stuff. It’s an interesting thought to remember all the work I put into it.

These pictures are some of my drawings that I copied from the site then coloured in photoshop. I have others and still own posters that I was sent by Youdraw.com with hundreds of images. They were going to publish a book but I haven’t heard if that will actually happen.

One of my favourite drawing websites over the years is Youdraw.com they were trying to collect over 500,000 drawings to bring people’s attention to population growth. I had the pleasure of drawing there, and sometimes the pain of moderating it.

Unfortunately these are distorted, they were originally drawn in long thin boxes but the WordPress system has turned them into squares.

I stopped drawing there because I had computer problems then started using a tablet which doesn’t let me draw there.

The site has a tiny space to draw in and only has a thick and thin black pen and a thick and thin eraser. But you could work out how to erase and then redraw so you could get some impressive shading results.

I miss the old days. I’m glad I saved a lot of my old drawings.
