Carving?

This is a stone carving I think? It’s on a building in Newcastle under Lyme. The building, a shop, has closed and other buildings around it are partially demolished. I hope this carving will be recovered and reused, maybe it will go to a reclamation yard? I think it’s probably an art nouveau design.  I hope the business that was there is successful in its new home (there wee signs saying it had moved elsewhere.

Moving stuff

It doesn’t look like much but I can see the floor. It means that the people taking some furniture out for me will be able to get through.

It’s taken me a year of grief to get to this point. I have had to get rid of things I might have wanted to keep. To say “goodbye” to things that have sat in the same place for years. The “that will come in handy” stuff, the “oh don’t throw that away, I’ll have it”, stuff.

I have also uncovered a large patch of damp under one of my windows, I will have to be responsible and get it patched up. Time, maybe, to stop ignoring things?

Cats move

Trying to take a photo of my cat with her big eyes. She’s so beautiful, I wanted to show you all. But she doesn’t stay still unless she’s asleep.

She announces herself as she comes in with a series of miaows and mews, tail high waving in the air like a flag. Claws out she stands to sharpen them in my leg (get off!) this is her usual greeting. Then she rubs her head against my feet that are raised to reduce swelling at the moment. A meep and a purr, then up on my legs and backwards and forwards between the chair arms and my lap, all the while purring loudly.

Just keep still, let me take your photo, but no, after the purring and poddling (kneading with her paws), she’s off and down again, her fat little belly waddling off into the distance, flag tail waving goodbyes…..

Car being fixed

My car is having some welding done after someone about six weeks ago. There us now a rusty hole in the wing. I’m not happy, but the person drove off and didn’t leave a note to say that they had hit me! It’s not worth claiming off the insurance as I wouldn’t be surprised if they said its not worth repairing! It’s an old car, but it runs well. The emissions are good, and think of the resources it would take to make a new one? Then in a few years time all cars in the UK will have to be electric. Which is difficult if you live in a terraced house with no driveway. How will they retrofit charging points? Maybe they should use all the plastic in the oceans to make the body panels or the interior lastic fittings? Recycle and reuse should be our constant motto.

In the meantime I will keep running my old car….
