Orchid

I didn’t notice but one of my orchids has flowered. Not a good photo, lots of camera shake. You can just see there are a few lower buds yet to open.

Today I got soaked walking 100 yards to choir practice. I can’t drive and I struggle to manage with a walking stick and a brolly, so I left it behind It was drizzling when I went out but it came down heavy as I walked along. So much so it was raining into my eyes. I was told not to get water in my eye that had been operated on. I avoided doing it in the shower but unfortunately the weather got the better of me. Still I have antibiotic eye drops to put in.

Which reminds me I’d better water the orchids.

Impeller problems

I have an impeller pump in my water system because my header tank is in the bathroom extension and doesn’t create any water pressure when I have a shower etc. Last night it didn’t pump, it just hummed. Only a trickle of water came through. The pump pushes water through the cold and hot systems. It’s probably full of limescale because I live in a hard water area.

I’ve got a heating engineer coming out tomorrow. He’s been round and found out what pump he needs. So I’m basically waiting for it to be changed over, but I want a shower. Now instead I’m trying to work out if I can boil water then add cold into saucepans so I can at least wash my hair. That would be after I clear out the airing cupboard that’s full of a lot of junk. Plus the house is in a mess. Argh, I’m going to be preoccupied for a while.

Soaked!

My feet were soaked, my coat got soaked and hail and rain trickled down my neck! The bottom of my trousers acted like a wick and sucked up the water. I was still wearing sandals because I hurt my toes a few weeks ago and the sandals are squelching  so I’ve had to get my warm slippers on. It’s not very warm so I’ll get a hot shower.

April showers? Yesterday the next door town had a mini tornado that blew a caravan over and several trees were blown over in the east Midlands. Today we even had a thunderstorm. I only went out to meet a friend, we had a walked up the steep hill to her house and then I was stuck for a while because the hail and rain was so heavy. Water was streaming down the pavements and gutters which is why my feet got so wet.

We are lucky to have rain in this country but a lot of UK farmers have been affected by the wet winter months. Crops have been affected and are not growing like they should. The plants are basically being drowned and many flood warnings have been in force.

Better weather and a high pressure system is expected over the UK in the next few days. Meanwhile I’m going to try and get warm and dry!

Keeping warm

My cats on their cat tree. Keeping warm. The weather is a lot colder now than it was last week. I gave up and put the central heating on. We were out in the rain earlier and I got soaked. We are having hefty April showers. The sky turns dark grey and then hail and rain pour down. The temperature is about 10 centigrade lower than it was a week ago… Typical British weather.
