Thank you Keith!

So many things have gone wrong lately. I lost a letter from the government and didn’t know what to do. It had warned me I might get fined if I didn’t fill in a form.

First I rang the local council, they gave me a phone number. Yesterday I rang it but due to technical problems they were not accepting calls.

So today I rang back. I spoke to a lovely and helpful man called Keith. He said he could help find the letter and what form I needed to fill in but the system was down so he would ring me back…

A few minutes later he called back. He had found my account and could complete the form with me over the phone but I would have to submit it myself so he would save it for me.

I’m so glad he helped, the 20 questions were complex and vague at the same time. I tried my best to answer accurately. I think I did OK. Once we were finished he gave me a long reference number and explained what I needed to do to submit the form. I explained that I sometimes shake I can hit the wrong keys. I asked what to do if I went wrong. He said just ring the department back with the reference number.

Then he said he could stay on the line and talk me through it! He did so and the form was submitted successfully! Thank you Keith!

Your anti virus has run out…

Another scam. If you send me an email with a link about a package, or my anti virus content don’t expect me to open it! I know which anti virus I use, so if you use a different company name I’m not randomly going to think ‘oh I might have a surprise package’ or ‘that looks like an interesting link’. If I do get called I won’t be going out and buying gift cards. I also have no interest in ordering things online, so the package I missed isn’t mine…if someone says they have accidentally put £500 in my account I will say thank you so much and hang up (it’s a scam, it’s not real).

Seriously, be careful, don’t let the scammers mess you about. If it sounds too good to be true it is.

Support small business

Pandemic=lockdowns=not going out=buying online.

But if you wear a mask and social distance, you could go into local shops. You could spend money at places that are hitting brick walls when it comes to trading and selling. Local shops bring trade into towns and cities. Money spent there is shared round the local community and can be reinvested. You can spend online but that money just goes to massive industries and into the back pockets of billionaires.

Think first, buy local if you can or buy from independent makers. X

Why do things go wrong

Splat!

Just when you think things are OK sometimes they go wrong.

Case in point, we have to get copies of documents sent in for something. I collected everything together but a couple of things are missing. We went to the shop and got a copy of the sales invoice. Then I checked a document and its not up to date, it was done on line but we were never sent the original documents. Much head scratching, swear words, contacting people. I hope I have sorted it out, but you never know.

I suppose the thing to realise is that lots of people are struggling too. It’s just life and beauracracy, we have to have bits of paper to prove things. But now they do things online… It’s not simple. You have to log in and remember passwords. Only I have a different one for everything! Splat, my mind is whirling.
