Broken glass

I am annoyed. I put this glass down by my chair this morning after drinking some fruit juice. I went out to an appointment, came home, went to walk into the kitchen and caught the glass with my foot. Of course it smashed. It had a heavy base but the ridged sides were thin and delicate. Result, glass shards everywhere. I hope I have swept them all up.

I don’t know if it’s possible to make glasses like this stronger, it was an expensive glass and I’d like to buy a replacement, but dare I? Do I have to treat it like a rare jewel?

Light

Tuesdays #bandofsketchers prompt was light. I drew one of my blue glass candle sticks in felt pen. There’s too much clutter on the shelf so the shadow is imagined as is the candle. I have drawn smoke from the wick which is also visible in the shadow. I could have added a flame but don’t have a memory of how it would look.

A glass world

Glass paperweight

Like a water world with tiny golden islands on an ultramarine sea.

I have a few paperweights but this is my favourite. I look into it and am enchanted by how they managed to embed gold leaf into it. They must have gathered the blue glass and rippled on the black layer, then put gold leaf on and blown into the glass to make it split up or maybe just let loose gold leaf fall onto it? Then gathered (added a layer) of clear glass on top.

I’m only guessing about the technique but however it was done, it’s beautiful.

Blue jewellery

I did a glass workshop a while ago using blue glass and copper and silver and Mica and different coloured foil.

I then asked a friend if she could do some wire weaving around them to turn them into fabulous necklaces. A few months later (she is quite ill so can only work on things occasionally) I collected these lovely things.

I’ve included front and backs so you can see how they are held in place and the intriguing patterns of wire on their backs. They come complete with gold coloured chains with loops and bars to open and close them.

They are for sale so contact me if you want a unique gift or treat for yourself.
