Makers market at Spode

Small paintings for sale

Saturday is the open Studios day at Acava Spode Studios in Elanora Street, Stoke. On from 10am to 4pm, studio holders open their studios to the public and also hold a small sale to try and sell some of their work in time for Christmas.

This is a chance to buy hand made arts and crafts at a local venue in Stoke. There are all sorts of work represented.

I will be in my studio to show people work in progress and also have some of my older work on sale.

Might see you there?

Preparations

I will be at studio 21 at Spode tomorrow for our annual Open Day. Come and see me painting in the studio or visit the makers market where I will have minature paintings for sale. Then during the day I will try to complete a new painting of a bottle oven (a pottery kiln).

It’s been two years since I’ve been there properly. My fear of Covid, then illness and bereavement have kept me out. But everyone was so nice today. I’ve entered some of my minature paintings for the craft Market. I thought people might use them as Christmas stocking fillers. There’s everything from a tiny giraffe with an abstract background to a small Jupiter with great red storm and a moon passing by. Maybe I will sell a few.

Spode floors

If you want an abstract image you don’t need to go far in spode studios. Just look down at the floor. The yellow stripes and turquoise patches make a fine design. I don’t know what the building was like before they put studios in on either side of the corridor but perhaps the blue green areas were where machines were sited.

I took a couple of pictures today but couldn’t help getting my foot in one….

I think if I painted these they would have to have a thick varnish so that they have that sheen that the floors have. So many ideas that I can think of, I love the way there are views and images at the old spode site that evoke the history of the place.

Here are two more photos. This time pictures out of the windows of of the studios.
