Exhibition at centre space.

DSC_1835I had the pleasure of meeting an artist and photographer called Cyril Tilstone at his exhibition at Centre Space tonight. It is based at the Spode heritage visitors centre at spode site, Eleanora Street, Stoke-on-Trent. It started tonight and is on for a month.

His images are photo collages of bottle ovens or historic buildings like cherished chimneys at Longport. With interesting and intruiging compositions including things like chimney pots, doves, paintings by Joshua Reynolds and even marbles. The images are colourful and show the industrial history of Stoke-on-Trent in a new way. There are time travelling Dr Who characters dotted about. This is a gentle and gently humorous look at Stoke-on-Trent past and present.

I would  recommend it to you.

Spode site progress?

Spode site in Stoke is continuing to change,  the area up by the new hotel and visitor centre remain the same and work is almost completed on the hotel itself which is housed in one of the old Spode buildings.

Half of the site has been sold to a developer, this is the side closest to the A500 road. You can see the civic centre in Stoke across the cleared land.

The other half which is nearest stoke town centre will soon have more (larger) units for artists and creative’s to rent from Acava and the City council. The China halls that have been used for putting on the British Ceramic Biennial and also performances of plays, is still there but some of the more modern ancillary buildings have been demolished. As a studio holder its a strange experience walking through the site. It’s a bit of an excuse not to go in. But I must!

The visitor centre and the hotel both have cafes you can visit, and the visitor centre has recently been refurbished with a new exhibition space called centre space . I need to get organised and try and get an exhibition there.

I think the changes to the Spode site will be documented. It is go I to see it is not just being left to become derelict.

Paintings at Spode visitor centre

I was recently pleased to have some of my paintings at Spode visitor centre in Elanora Street , Stoke, Stoke on Trent in January 2018. I have also had a painting  in the Open Exhibition at the Brampton museum and art gallery in Newcastle-under-Lyme. This is on till 22 April 2018.

Various artists who are based at the studios at Spode  displayed there work in a start of the year sale. There is now a photography exhibition and other art will be exhibited at the visitor centre over the following months. The Spode Artists are having an Open day and Makers Market on 20 May 2018, at the Studios at Spode. If you want to come and browse through some of the pottery on sale in the centre, or indeed come and look at the work being exhibited at the studios, please feel free to do so.IMG_20171121_230721_495
