I don’t use my oven.

Are there things you try to practice daily to live a more sustainable lifestyle?

I don’t use the oven or gas fire.

I’ve got an airfryer which is good for small amounts of food. I use the hob for vegetables and small meals like soup. And for really quick meals I use the microwave instead of the hob.

I think doing this has saved me a few pounds. And it’s not warming the climate as much so my carbon footprint must be smaller as I don’t use the car much.

My TV screen

I found something out about listening to radio on the TV. You can press a button and stop the screen being illuminated. If you do that then you don’t have to look at the illuminated screen and it saves energy that would be used to display the image. Who knew? It’s probably something everyone could do. I should also turn the TV off at the plug at night so it’s not on standby, saving more energy. I will try and remember.

Car being fixed

My car is having some welding done after someone about six weeks ago. There us now a rusty hole in the wing. I’m not happy, but the person drove off and didn’t leave a note to say that they had hit me! It’s not worth claiming off the insurance as I wouldn’t be surprised if they said its not worth repairing! It’s an old car, but it runs well. The emissions are good, and think of the resources it would take to make a new one? Then in a few years time all cars in the UK will have to be electric. Which is difficult if you live in a terraced house with no driveway. How will they retrofit charging points? Maybe they should use all the plastic in the oceans to make the body panels or the interior lastic fittings? Recycle and reuse should be our constant motto.

In the meantime I will keep running my old car….

Thunder and lightning

After such a hit humid day Britain is now being hit by big thunderstorms. I watch an app called blitzortnung and you can see lightening strikes from around the world. He thunderstorms that we’re here an hour ago have moved up towards the North East of the country, but it looks like another line of storms is on its way up from the Midlands. I tried to take some photos but the first few didn’t work very well because my phone camera was on automatic. By the time it had decided on an exposure the flash was gone (orange coloured sky photos caused by street lamps) then I realised if I set lit on the basic manual mode I would get quicker ictures despite the view on the camera being darker. The purplish photos were from doing that. I managed to actually catch a bolt of lightning! The bright one, like daylight was just an extremely bright flash.

Now its raining again. No doubt we will have more but its 3.39am….

Goodnight
