Can’t watch!

I started watching the paralympics tennis and our man was loosing. I tried ignoring it and he started to win. Now I’m caught between wanting to watch and see who wins and not watching so I don’t jinx it!

It’s odd to feel I have any influence over the outcome. But listening to the game seems OK? Very strange. I’ve had this happen in other situations. The football world Cup was on, I watched, we lost. So I’d rather not watch and allow others to see the result no matter what happens!

His last match?

In the Olympics tonight Andy Murray and his partner Dan Evans were up against an American duo in the Quarter finals of the men’s doubles tennis competition.

Having won through against adversity in the previous two matches (winning after 5 match points against them and 2 match points in the following game) Murray and Edwards came through a five, two deficit in the second set to win two games back. Sadly though, and despite an almost miraculous comeback they eventually lost.

Andy Murray has been playing for years. He won the men’s singles finals at Wimbledon three times and has also previously been Olympic champion too. I think he is 37. Recently he has had back surgery and has a prosthetic hip. He had physical problems to overcome over most of his career. Perhaps this is the right time for him to finish his tennis career. But he will be sorely missed.

Watching Wimbledon

Oh the tension! The game is on. I’m watching but not watching. In other words I’ve got the TV on but I’ve got my eyes closed, or I’m looking away. Bitten nails, nervous gulps. It’s only tennis!

Andy Murray is currently on centre court against Stephanos Tsitipas. They are one set all. Murray might get a break point in a minute. He did it! But can he keep it up? He’s old, but mature, but he’s up against an excellent player.

I only tend to watch Wimbledon, and that’s because it’s on free to air TV, I can’t be bothered or afford cable or satellite TV. And then I only watch certain matches. If I start watching and the match goes the wrong way, I will turn the TV over. I don’t want to jinx the play!

This game is probably going to go onto 11pm and then be finished tomorrow, so that’s another hour of knuckle biting!

Watching Wimbledon

I mustn’t watch. The players I support seem to lose when I watch them! If I listen its OK, but if I see the shots… Well it’s something that seems to happen. I have my favourite tennis players, but I’m not obsessed with the game. I wouldn’t go and watch it live.

Wimbledon is the epitome of summer in the UK. Strawberries and cream at exorbitant prices. At least one day of heavy rain which ‘stops play’, injury and tantrums. I still remember watching the McEnroe game where he shouted at the umpire ‘you cannot be serious’ when a shot of his was deemed to be ‘out’ (outside the playing area) and he had lost a point ( game/set/match)?

I saw Andy Murray win a few years ago, so I can’t really be jinxing them. But although I love the game I do have things to do!

PS, both the people I watched lost!

Tennis final

Djokovic v Federer, Wimbledon men’s final, can’t watch, so I’m typing this instead, they are in a tie break at twelve games all in the fifth set. The score is two sets all, twelve games all and 4-1 to Djokovic in the last game. Its nail-biting stuff. My hubby keeps talking bout various things in the past so I can’t concentrate……. My heart is racing… Now its 4-3 to Djokovic…. I need to sit in a darkened room….

Wimbledon

It’s that time of year again, two weeks of tennis on TV. I could sit in a darkened room and watch it all, mens, womens doubles and wheelchair matches. There is a lot of excitement especially towards the end of the tournament and that’s not including the risk of a heavy downpour of rain stopping play.

This year court one has a retractable roof so it offers shelter to players in the same way as the centre court.

Wimbledon can be engrossing, intriguing, spectacular. Human bodies getting bent and stretched into shapes never normally seen in real life. The commentary helps you understand what just happened when tennis balls are travelling across the court faster than you can see.

But I’m getting interested. It’s on in the background. I’ve got things to do. People to see. Switch it off…. In a few minutes, at the end of this game…. This set…. This match….
