Packaging

How do I send a canvas in the post? I have wrapped it in bubble wrap but when I got to the post office they didn’t have any boxes big enough. They suggested I put it in a bin liner and tape it well but I didn’t think that would be secure enough. I asked them if they had any old cardboard boxes and they gave me two small boxes with low sides. I will try and unfold them and use them to strengthen the front and back. I was then going to use a black bin bag, but I went in the petrol station to fill up. They were chucking out a large cardboard box so I asked for it. I will use that as outer packaging with lots of tape. I’m glad I called in. Wish me luck, and the canvas a safe journey X.

A better day

I went out in the car today. Only to a post office to send some documents off and get some shopping. The postmaster asked me what was in the envelope that was addressed to “the bereavement team”. When I said a copy of hubbys will and death certificate he was instantly sympathetic.

As a sign we might be living in the matrix, while I had been waiting in the queue I had spotted a box of cuppa soups that I like. After I’d handed over my letter I turned round to pick up the soup… Where was it. I stood for two or three minutes but could no longer see it. A glitch in the matrix? All the other boxes of soup I had spied were also missing. Perhaps I had dreamt it.

Then I went into a shop and got a cornish pasty and a chocolate brownie for tea. I noticed that the woman who served me had a runny nose and touched it with her hand before picking up the brownie. I got home washed my hands, microwaved the pasty, washed my hands, microwaved the brownie, washed my hands. I think I might have been overcautious but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

Posted!

We posted a full size bike (minus its wheels), today. It was a racing bike, but with mudguards so we had to unscrew the back mudguard and twist it tound because it made the bike too long for the box. Then we rotated the handlebars downwards so they didn’t stick out at the side too much (we had tied then at 90 degrees to how they are when you ride) ideally we should have taken off the pedals but we roughly bubble wrapped. So the box is bulging… We also had to take off the saddle. The saddle stem is sticking up a bit so its covered in tape. The whole thing is a bit ramshackle.

Finally we shoved it in the car and drove round into town. We unloaded it out of the and started to carry it 100 yards and round the corner to the post office – which was closed and shuttered!!!!

Grr…. So we drove a few miles to another post office which was open. Bit of a bonus really, the original post office had quoted £30 for next day delivery. But this one quoted £16.50 for second class, arriving next Wednesday. Why not, cheaper and there is no rush.
