Heat

I’m sitting hoping the night will cool down. The backdoor is open and a couple of moths have come in. I’m watching an appropriate film “in the heat of the night”, set in the deep south of the USA. It’s about a black detective and a racist white policeman trying to solve a murder against the racial tensions of the 1960s. Somehow they manage to work together despite their differences. It’s very tense and thought provoking. I think people ought to watch it in these troubled times. I’ve seen it several times. We are so inhumane to people who just look different. It’s crazy.

Close encounters

I’m just watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I love this film and remember being in a massive queue around the block when I was waiting to see it at the cinema. That was when it first came out in the 1970s?

It’s a Steven Spielberg film staring Richard Dreyfuss as Roy Neary a man who sees unidentified flying objects and is compelled to find the cause of it. He keeps building objects in an attempt to understand where he needs to go. I won’t go into more detail in case you have never seen it.

I love it because it has a real feel good factor to it, it’s mysterious and intruiging and leads you through the story with a really satisfying end to it.

I have seen it a few times over the last few decades, but I never get bored with it. The special effects were ground breaking at the time. I hope if you enjoy it if you get to see it.

Spoilers

I just started watching an old film ‘the Winslow boy’. Five minutes in hubby pipes up, oh this is that’s story where…… I stopped him, please don’t tell me. I haven’t seen this for years! Doing that is called a spoiler. Thankfully he stopped telling me about it!

It’s not the first time he’s tried, and succeeded in spoiling a film for me. The worst occasion was in the cinema when his voice boomed out, oh its so and so who’s the killer! I was mortified. Shhhhhh!
