I don’t know how old this poster is, it was my hubby’s. It says “Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested.” Francis Bacon.
I think hubby got this before we met, in the 1970’s when he was at college. He always loved books and probably 3/4 of our books were his. We both had an eclectic taste in books. I need to declutter, but they are all old friends. X
I read the book this quote was in, I think it’s got the character Granny Weatherwax in it, (who often holds a sign when she’s possessing another animal and leaves an apparently lifeless body, “I ain’t dead yet”) but I can’t for the life of me which Terry Pratchett book it is in, (he wrote so many). I recommend him as a funny fantasy writer.
He died a few years ago of a form of alzheimers disease. I miss his cheerful and intelligent books so much I just wanted to share his words.

The world needs balance, fairness, care.
Be considerate of others, it’s something I’ve always thought was a good principle to try and stick to. Before you do something that might affect others, think of the consequences. I think the people in the world could try and be more helpful to each other. For instance 8 men (billionaires) own as much as 3.6 BILLION People. That’s about half the world’s population. Isn’t it about time that things were shared more fairly? I’m not saying everyone could be equal, but perhaps instead of avoiding tax, the richest in society could pay a fair amount.
Flowers from a bush in our garden, tentatively matched in the Spring 2021 issue of the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust Magazine, page 13 in the Nature Spy section.
It says ‘Blackthorn is one of the first native shrubs to burst into flower around mid-Marsh.’ (I think it means March) ‘Its fluffy white flowers, tinged with pink, provide vital nectar for the first of the years butterflies, bees and flies. St Davids is also the smallest city in Britain. It is in South West Wales. Its somewhere I’ve always meant to visit, but never got there.
