Confusion, can’t help myself..

The world keeps spinning and I’m still here, one year older. I feel, I don’t know? Like I need to change, to try and be positive. I have escaped from last week’s or years thoughts. Maybe I can gain some strength now I’m a year older and wiser? I have fractured thoughts…

Grief holds you tight, you interpret things in its light. Your expectations change. Fear and worry hold your hand. A loss of a sibling? Never to speak again…. Memories sneak up on you. You peek round a corner and they pounce on you. Birthdays, bad days, no joy. But now? Can I look forward not back? I must try…

  1. There’s no law that says you “get over” the loss of a sibling. I miss my brother all the time. At the same time there is the reality that I am alive now and always the beautiful question from a poem by Mary Oliver, “What will you do with your one wild and precious life?” Nothing will bring my bro back or my dad or my aunt Martha or my old best friend, Denis Joseph Francis Callahan. But I am here now. Wow. How amazing is that?

    Here’s the whole poem:

    Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
    Who made the grasshopper?
    This grasshopper, I mean—
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down—
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

    —Mary Oliver
