Kate playing fiddle

2014 drawing, we used to go to the pub and watch the Boatband playing cajun and folk music. Sometimes I would get up and sing a song a cappela, I like “Summer time” from the musical “Porgy and Bess”. I never remembered to learn new songs, life was too busy then. Now I long to time travel back to those days. I’d give anything to be back then sitting listening to the fiddle, guitar and accordion while beautiful music scurled around us.

Apples food

Glass noodles and mixed vegetables and beansprouts.

Thai food, our treat tonight, cooked by a lady called Apple who runs a Thai restaurant in Stoke.

I’ve written about it before, but I just had a lovely time tonight (and too many gin and tonics), so I thought I’d write about her.

Sawadee Thai taste has been open for several years. But it has been much quieter since Covid as less people are venturing out. I think the food is tasty, but its the friendly atmosphere that really makes it. I think Apple has a great personality. She deserves good Karma and support now things are starting to open up more. If you are ever in Stoke give her a try.

Thai taste

Delightful starters, tasty mains. We really enjoyed the evening meal at the local Thai restaurant. We had Thai fishcakes and spare ribs, then I had glass noodles and seafood with mushrooms and vegetables. Hubby had a hot beef green curry and sticky rice. It was a lovely evening, with a friendly waitress. The only thing that spoiled it was I had a couple of Gin and tonics and wasn’t driving so we had to dash home on foot because it started to rain and we’ve just had a bit of thunder and lightening.

In other news I think England may have beaten someone at football, but I’m not interested. There was an awful lot of shouting as we made our way home.

Night out at Keele

Keele University not Keele in Germany!

There is a choir called Keele Bach choir who do regular concerts of music by Bach and other composers each month or so.

We arrived on time but struggled to find a parking space. There are lots of spaces for approved permit holders only. Plus ones for electric vehicles, spaces for thirty minutes only and of course disabled spaces (which I would never park in) in the end we parked in a permit holders space, only to find out they are not policed after 5pm!

To the Chapel where the concerts are held. Lovely music, wonderful singers and beautiful organ laying. I didn’t get the titles of the short peices because we didn’t have time to get a programme, only getting there a minute before the performance. But there was an Ave Maria and then later an Ave Maria Stella.

During the interval I tried drawing the asymmetric windows in the Chapel above where the choir were singing.

When we came out the clouds were looming again. Pink edges to the clouds did seem to signify a slightly better day.
