Sprouts to go with this evenings meal. I cut the bases off then cut a cross in the bottom of them. I don’t know if that’s what other people do but it seems to let them cook better. I put them on to boil with water from the kettle for about 15 to 20 minutes. I don’t like them over cooked.
I don’t have them very often. Usually just around Christmas and New Year. They are a seasonal vegetable, a winter crop. Some people think they have too strong a flavour and fry them with bacon. I don’t mind them at all. Definitely one of my five a day.

I cooked sprouts yesterday. I cut the bottoms off, cut them in half and steamed them in the microwave for 3 minutes. I then backed them in the oven with sweet potato and Luv-a-duck….they were yummy and still crunchy.

Luv-a-duck is just a fancy sales gimmic name for a tray with two fresh duck breasts for $14. I can also buy Peking Luv-a-duck flavoured and cooked. Getting back to the Brussel Sprouts they a lovely fried with bacon just like shredded cabbage x

I still have one saved breast in the freezer. I marinate that one and make my version of Peking duck…

I’ve been having duck soup from our local Thai restaurant lately. The owner made it because I’d got a bad cold. Her version of ‘chicken soup’ I think

Tasty, I don’t know why I cut crosses in them. My grandmother and mother did it..
