Lands end

I still like this old oil painting I did of lands end twenty or more years ago. I actually painted it from a postcard. Lands End is at the furthest west part of Cornwall which is in turn the furthest west county of England.

We tried to go to Lands End on day trip while on a holiday once, but we couldn’t afford the entrance fee (I have no idea how much it costs now). So we ended up going down into Sennen cove slightly North of it. That was lovely, we found a great gift shop that was seriously tempting.

I think we were stopping at St Ives for a week, and visited the Tate gallery there. We also drove round to Penzance which was on the southern coast. I wish I could remember more about it. That’s the trouble when you only go somewhere once, long ago, memory fades.

Low pressure

Storm “Henk”, passed over us yesterday. The fifth named storm of the current season I think? Rivers in the South and West have flooded including the Severn at Shrewsbury, a river at Tenby in South West Wales, the river at Worcester and many other places. I think they said there were about 150 flood alerts this time including one in South Wales so severe that there was a danger to life.

Rain and strong winds had made it so dark outside that there were leaden skies for most of the day, and night came early as the sunlight was blocked by the piled up blackened clouds.

We had the new forecast last night. The low is drifting away and high pressure and colder drier weather is on its way. Thank goodness for that. But the weather is getting wilder. Is this a sign of global warming?

Our of a clear blue sky, I saw a plane flying overhead. I was bewildered at first to think what  it was! In  world where the birds are singing in the cold spring sunshine it was incongruous. Jarring even. I grabbed my phone and took a photo. I could even see the plane itself. Flying West to East, High above the earth.

I wonder about the ground control teams at airports? Are they short staffed, they must be essential staff, and what about pilots and crew? Are they quarantined when they land so they don’t pass it on? This could be a passenger aircraft, or air freight.

Like a castaway on a deserted beach, I wondered if they could see me.

Stay safe all!
