Just found this jumper I knitted about 40 years ago! I apparently was using a twisted pearl and knit stich. No pattern, I made it up as I went along! It was in one of my divan drawers that just got sent to the tip, the drawer not the jumper!
What are your two favorite things to wear?
My old jeans must be ten or fifteen years old. I used to be bigger so I’ve taken them in several times. I also like my moss green, cable knit jumper. It has a big turtle neck collar, and at this time of year they both keep me warm.
I love painting and I have to be careful not to get the paint on the jumper. The jeans don’t matter as much. I’ve used them for painting in for years.
I think clothes should last, they don’t need replacing every few months, they should be made to have a good lifetime, so that we don’t waste material and harm the environment more than we need to. I believe in make do and mend.
Wearing a jumper tonight. But I think I’m lucky, I have the money to buy a jumper. I can afford to put the heating up if I want. I have a roof over my head that hasn’t been damaged by the weather or fire or flooding. I have shops nearby I can go to, and a library I could visit if I want to stay warm. The world is a strange place. I am in a situation that a large percentage of the world would love to be in. But eighty men have more money between them than half the world’s population (about four billion). And now the UK government has given tax cuts to the richest here. In fact if you earn less than £100,000 a year you will be worse off.
Does fairness exist in the world? Yes, but not enough to go round. People are mostly uncaring, or worse still, selfish. So if you can, think of someone worse off than you, and try and help if you can. You could do that by physically or mentally helping, or even voting for monetary or environmental benefits.
And a bit damp. It’s 19.1°C in our living room and I’m contemplating putting a jumper on. I think my cat is chilly, he’s just come and sat on me and his sister wants a cuddle too. She sticks her claws in my leg and stretches up, but when I call her up she walks away. There are forecasts for rain tonight, thunder storms in the south east. If you want to look at where thunderstorms are look up blitzortung on Google. It’s a weather site that shows live tracking of thunderstorms.
Anyway that’s it from a cold and wet North Staffordshire…. X
